Neither user name nor display name appears over comments on other blogs

When I comment on another blog (at least on blogs run by another service), I’m asked to log in to WordPress.com by providing the personal part of my WordPress domain: .wordpress.com. But when I do that, appears as my name for the comment. I want either my real name or my @name to appear as my name for the comment. How can I make that happen?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Anyone? All I want is for a nameline name to appear, like everyone else’s.

That does sound strange. Could you please provide a link to such a comment where your display name (which appears to be “John”?) doesn’t appear and then add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section in this thread’s sidebar for Staff attention. Thanks.

Oh, sorry. I noticed you mentioned “on another service.” If you are using OpenID, there’s not much we can do about it as it really hasn’t worked correctly for years.

I’m not sure what that means. I’m presented with a drop-down list through which to choose an account to sign in under–Google+, Gravatar, WordPress, and so on. If I choose WordPress, my blog name appears (x.wordpress.com) instead of my real name as registered with WordPress.

    Hello again,

    I’m presented with a drop-down list

Can you post a link to the site you are talking about? Thanks.

I took a bunch of screen shots, but apparently I can’t post them in a comment. This seems to occur mostly or exclusively on Blogspot blogs. I understand that WordPress is not responsible for the behavior of other blogging platforms, but I thought perhaps Blogspot is obtaining user name information from WordPress.

Go to any Blogspot blog, such as https://oztypewriter.blogspot.com/, click Post a Comment, and you’ll see the drop-down menu asking you to specify an identity with which to log in. When you choose WordPress, you’re asked for your WordPress user name, and prompted with http://username.wordpress.com. After you choose, your comment is posted under username, and not the public display name that I set at https://wordpress.com/me.

Hello again, thanks for the additional information.

When you choose WordPress, you’re asked for your WordPress user name, and prompted with http://username.wordpress.com. After you choose, your comment is posted under username,

This is how Blogger works, it displays whatever appears before .wordpress.com It won’t display anything else. As a “workaround” you could simply use the comment Name and URL option if the Blogger site has made it available.

Another option is to go to your site’s WP Admin and on the Settings>OpenID dashboard add the site as a trusted site where you are trying to use the OpenID option (if you look at the site you linked to, WordPress, LiveJournal, TypePad and AIM all appear under OpenID). https://johndylancooper.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=openidserver I must mention again that OpenID has been problematic, ie doesn’t consistently work, for all the time I’ve been on WordPress.com

Lastly, your WordPress.com/Gravatar *display name* will only appear when you are logged in with your WordPressdotcom account and leave a comment on a WordPress.com site or a WordPress site or anywhere else that uses the Gravatar API

    Hope that helps explain somewhat.
