Nested Menus

OK, lets cut right to the chase. I need a real, nested menu structure. If WordPress can’t do this straight-away then I need to know it now and look for another web resource before wasting too much development time.

Nested menus = menu (widget, I suppose) in side bar with 2nd level pages. 2nd level pages then have another side bar menu with 3rd level pages. I probably won’t use them but I think SIX levels would probably do.

The side-bar menu widget is incomprehensible as to how it operates and it strangely interacts with the top of page menu which sometimes appears and then disappears. I don’t want the top of page menu.

Can WP do this …….. or not?? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot assign different menus to different pages here.

You can blank out the top menu by creating a blank custom menu and assigning it to that location (as long as the theme you are using supports custom menus in the top navigation position), or you can hide the entire thing with the CSS upgrade as long as you have experience with CSS.

For the menu widget, you create a custom menu and configure it as you wish (levels, order, etc.), save it and then insert the menu widget into the sidebar and then from the pulldown int he widget select the menu you created for the widget.

Of course all this is mute considering my first sentence.

To get what you want you are going to have to self-host. I’m sure there are plugins that will do what you want for WordPress, but if there aren’t, set up a Drupal or Joomla site. Neither is really a blogging platform though and are clunky for blogging.

Thank you for a most informative reply!

    You’re welcome.

At wordpress.ORG, do some research in the extend/plugins section on menu plugins. I bet there is something there that will work on a self-hosted blog to allow menus to be assigned by page.
