Neverending Billing Currency Thread

Why is this still an issue that requires manual intervention? Can’t you just let users decide what currency type they know they are using? Technically this should be non-trivial for a development group like WordPress.

Anyway, I want to buy a new domain name I’ve been waiting to be released for months now, and it is finally released and now I see I’m set to euros. Why? I don’t know. But please change it to dollars.

And then please ask some product manager to figure out what the cost of continuing this practice over the years including customer dissatisfaction costs.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I have changed the currency under your account from EUR to USD.

Why is this still an issue that requires manual intervention? Can’t you just let users decide what currency type they know they are using?

There are usually two reasons why a user’s currency under their account isn’t their own – either because they created their account while visiting another country, or if they moved. In those instances, users contact us and we happily change their currency on our end.

We adjust our non USD prices to reflect adjustments in tax and foreign exchange rates, as we do need to cover VAT, for example. We require users to pay in the currency in which they live, where available. This prevents the issue of refunds do to exchange rate changes, avoiding VAT, etc.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

LinkedIn just goes by the country where your credit card is. So no need to deal with manual intervention. I presume just about every other major website has something similar.

    Anyway, thanks for changing mine.
