new 2015 theme
-
After reading an article on your site about how three people used your new 2015 theme, remaking it to make it there own, I decided to use it.
The second example a blog by Michelle Luu was very appealing to me. She used a large image of a birds next as her header image. I tried doing the same with my photo using sticky post, with the image as the featured image. The problem is the word “Featured” appears on the image which I don’t want. Also someone clicks on a link to go to my blog posts, the “Featured” image, which is also my header, does not show. Also I tried putting the social media links in my sidebar, like Michelle did and couldn’t. Nice article but not enough information on how to accomplish these things. Can you help me?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, I believe you’re referring to this article:
and this blog:

Let me know if not! See answers below.

The “Featured” wording will be applied to any posts labeled as “Sticky” on the Twenty Fifteen theme. You don’t need to label a post as “sticky” for the featured image to show up. You should just need to set a featured image for each post:
That’s how Michelle has setup her site.
Also someone clicks on a link to go to my blog posts, the “Featured” image, which is also my header, does not show.
I’m seeing the featured image on your single post pages like this one:
https://dianespaintingblog.wordpress.com/2015/02/17/438/
Is that not appearing on your side?
Also I tried putting the social media links in my sidebar, like Michelle did and couldn’t.
It looks like you’ve created a custom menu titled Social Meda in Sidebar here:
https://dianespaintingblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
Now, we’ll just need to add some links to your social media profiles. You can do that following the steps here:
There are a list of supported social media services at the bottom of the page here:
https://wordpress.com/themes/twentyfifteen
If you link to something like Facebook, we’ll automatically convert the link to an icon for you.
Can you give that a try?

Yes, we are talking about the same article.
I think what I want to do and what I am doing are two different things.
What I want to do is make a custom header image with my blog name in it (that’s the featured image that I have now as a sticky post on my blog), and have it permanently the first thing people see when they come to my site, without the “featured” words on it and without all the social media icons under it. In other words I want it to function as a permanent header to my blog.
If I come to my blog via the address bar and DianesPaintingBlog.Wordpress.com, I see the girl image with my blog name on it. If I come in via a link on Facebook to a post, the last post shows at the top of the page, not the image with my blog name.
Is there a way to achieve this with the 2015 theme?
p.s. I’m working on the social media in the sidebar, thank for your info.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a great way to achieve what you’re looking for. Custom headers in the Twenty Fifteen theme are using in the sidebar like the demo image shown here:
We could use a bit of a workaround using featured (sticky) posts on the site, but as you already noticed, you would only see those featured posts at the top of the page when you navigated to your homepage, not on individual articles. So, the sticky posts would be pinned to the top on dianespaintingblog.wordpress.com, but not when someone went to your individual posts.
Would displaying your image in the sidebar work? If not, I’m happy to help you find a theme that supports a custom header image near the top!

I think I will stick with the 2015 theme for now, there are so many things I like about it. Not sure about putting the header in the sidebar but thanks for all your help.

Jeremey,
this is a different subject but you were so helpful on the previous issue I’d like to ask you about a new one. Before I started the Diane’sPaintingBlog wordpress site I had another one RagDollsRising.
How do I delete the RagDollsRising blog? It’s always there under my name and sometimes when I email a link to a post on DianesPaintingBlog the signature is from RagDollsRising. I don’t want it or use it anymore, how can I make it to go away?
-
The RagDollsRising shouldn’t appear underneath your name when you’re posting to Diane’s Painting Blog. If possible, could you take a screenshot of where you’re seeing this and upload it to your Media Library?
If you would like to delete ragdollsrisingblog.wordpress.com, you can do that following the instructions here:
Just a word of caution, that is permanent. You can follow those steps from your Dashboard here:
-
I followed these instructions and I’m glad to say I don’t think I will be seeing the other site again. I don’t have an example of how the other blog name appeared in a email but I don’t think it will happen again, now that the other blog is deleted. thank you

Jeremey,
I have another question for you. Before I switched to the Twenty Fifteen theme I had several static pages that were accessible from the top bar. I see in my dashboard I still have the pages, but they don’t show up anywhere on my blog. How do I make them visible again?thanks, Diane
-
Hey Diane,
I thought I’d give you a hand while Jeremey is offline. Hope that’s all right!
If you’d like to add any pages to your top navigation bar, you can use the custom menu builder:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/The link to your menu builder is here:
https://dianespaintingblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.phpGive that a go, and if you need assistance during any of the steps, let me know.
Cheers!
