New Account

We are a small Lutheran church. I set up our site with a Joomla template, eNom Registrar, and Arvixe Host 3 years ago. Currently I am the only one who can manage it! We’d like a WordPress Church template, with changeable styles, that has the ability for On-Line Donations, on the Business Plan. I’d like to have you host the site and transfer everything over to this new account, I am tired of ‘thinking website-y’. Automatic updates of extensions (or whatever you call them), auto site backups, automatic security updates. I want to focus on content, not worrying about all of this. Ease of use is very important, I want to train office or other volunteers how to use it and make changes quickly and easily. Our domain is risen-savior.com, registered through eNom. I need to know ballpark costs to present to the church before anything happens, and possibly a demo of a comparable site style they can look at that is on-line.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am not interested in a Blog at this point. This topic was meant for changing our website from Arvixe host to WordPress, keeping eNom as the registrar so we keep our domain.

Hi lcrsgvaz,
You can find a guide to moving a self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/
There are some other helpful resources here as well: https://en.support.wordpress.com/coming-from-self-hosted/
WordPress.com staff can’t transfer your site for you. If you want to hire someone to take care of this for you, you could try posting your request on this WordPress jobs board: https://jobs.wordpress.net/

Hi there @lcrsgvaz!
To add to @amiepalatnik’s answer, you can check the pricing for the Business Plan, as well as other plans, here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
For the site’s style, you can browse the themes that are available here, and see which feels right for your church: https://wordpress.com/themes
I saw that someone else also asked about themes for a church here, and the Happiness Engineer suggested these two:
Edin: https://wordpress.com/themes/edin/
Gateway: https://wordpress.com/themes/gateway/But there are a lot of other themes you can choose from as well.
I hope that helps!

Thank you both very much. I have looked at some of the links but am a little anxious about starting anything. I’ll keep you posted!

All right, just let us know if you need help, and we’ll try our best to assist you. :) We’ve got volunteers and Happiness Engineers here in the forum.

Hi lcrsgvaz,
The page that @sarahcada linked to above is a great resource to learn more about what is included in the Business Plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
I also wanted to follow up with a few clarifications on my previous reply.
Migrating Your Content
In my previous reply I sent you a link on how to move a self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com. Since you have a Joomla site, you will need to export your site’s content to an XML file. There are Joomla extensions that may help with this step. Then you can import that XML file into your WordPress.com site.Donations
There are a few ways you can set up online donations on your WordPress.com site. One option is to set up a PayPal Donate button by following these steps: https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/view-all/The Business Plan allows you to install plugins (similar to extensions in Joomla), so you could choose to use a dedicated plugin for donations instead.
Domain
The Business Plan includes a domain credit that you can use to map the domain that you already have to your WordPress.com site. This guide explains how to set up domain mapping for your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/I hope this helps! Feel free to reply here if you have other questions.

That did help a lot, sometimes breaking things down that seem obvious turns on the light bulb for us dim-wattage ones! Thanks a lot, I’m on hold at the moment…but will get back with you soon. Mic
