  I was just trying to access a FREE blog account which was recommended by my brother. When I submitted a username and password, it asked me to choose which payment plan I wanted, for example, FREE for one year only, then $18 a year. That is NOT what I want. How do I get out of this?

  Hi, it sounds like you’ve chosen a custom domain. Can you choose a free address instead? Then you can choose the free plan when you’re offered those options.

  Thank you for your reply. I did not choose a custom domain intentionally. In fact, at the very beginning of the process, it asked me to name my blog. Evidently that was to be my ‘domain’ and frankly I didn’t even know what that meant at that time. As I am technologically challenged, how do I choose a free address?

  When choosing the name for your blog, you will see a list of suggestions, look for a subdomain with the .wordpress.com extension. You’ll see that it says “Free” right next to it.
  Once you’ve chosen the free subdomain, on the next screen you should see a button that will allow you to continue with the free plan.

  If you don’t see it, make sure there is no adblocking extension on your browser – it has been reported to hide this button at times.
