New Admin Page Forced Upon Us
-
I strongly object to you switching off the old admin pages this morning. Your Blocks Editor would be a nice idea if it worked properly like InDesign or Quark Express, but sadly it is clunky and not fit for purpose.
If I can’t make Classic Posts I’m inclined to give up blogging (after 10 years).
Yes I have looked at Classic Blocks – they are dreadful. You had a great interface and you broke it! -
Hi there, If your account has been switched to the unified navigation and you formerly accessed the Classic Editor through WP Admin, you’ll need to turn on the Advanced Navigation in your Account Settings> Interface Settings> Dashboard Appearance https://wordpress.com/me/account

While the Classic Editor is currently available, in the long run you’ll want to give the full Block Editor or the Classic Block a workout. The more you use it, the easier it will become. WordPress.com also published a guide specifically for writers and bloggers that you can find here https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/
Hope that helps, but post back here if you have any other questions on this.

Thanks I found that before you posted.
I still object to WP removing the my WP Admin page – the newer stats pages are an eyesore.
I have had a good look at Blocks – it’s poorly designed and hard to use. This isn’t helped by the fact that you’ve hidden all the tools. I studied interface design – this would not pass muster with Brenda Laurel!
As I said, I am preparing to stop blogging, Blocks is so badly designed it’s not worth using. The key to good design is “Keep It Simple Stupid” – you’ve made it difficult and I haven’t come across anyone, in real life, who likes it!

I do not often join in at questions, but today I had to do it, joing in earlier at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/classic-admin/ . I cannot help noticing in today’s answers about the admin dashboard in similar forum topics some people have a difficulty in recognizing the question is about the WP Admin dashboard, not about the Classic Editor. As for now I can still reach WP Admin by typing
/wp-admin/after the URL of my blog. Connected with the WP Admin dashboard is the question to bring back the button to reach it easily.Perhaps one central question on reaching the WO Admin dsashboard should be created.

Thanks, so can I, but the wp-admin/index.php?page=stats pages have gone and that’s what I’m complaining about. It’s all relative to Gutenberg.
I’m sick of the whole thing – WordPress are forcing Gutenberg on their users and most people don’t want or like it (as far as I can tell). 5 million people have downloaded the Classic Editor plugin for paid WP sites – that’s how popular Blocks is, or rather isn’t.
WP have sucked the life out of blogging and after 10 years this makes me ready to give up.

..but I don’t think it helped – my post was deleted (I assume), because I mentioned that 5 million people have downloaded the Classic Editor plugin – which shows how much people dislike Gutenberg!

Here is your comment in that thread https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unified-navigation/page/2/?view=all#post-3653508 However, unified navigation, which has just been rolled out within the last couple of weeks, is not related to the block editor, which was rolled out last year. These are two separate things.
Setting Advanced Navigation pages as default in your Account settings will bring you back to WP Admin’s Posts dashboard where you can continue to write with the Classic Editor, as long as it is available here. WordPress.com is making it available to us through that plugin, but it can only be used in the WP Admin dashboard. But setting Advanced Navigation pages does not bring back the full WP Admin dashboard, such as Stats, as you later mentioned.
There can be any number of reasons why people running standalone WP sites are using the Classic Editor plugin. The most likely is compatibility issues with older versions of standalone WP themes that were made for legacy sites which haven’t been and aren’t going to be updated. Here are stats for the top 10 million sites tracked by W3Tech if that interests you.
Anyway, hope that helped.

If anyone needs any help with this.
As Just Jennifer suggested I clicked on the ‘WordPress me’ account . This takes you to the interface settings. However when I got there the setting was showing it was set to the old dashboard but the new dashboard was still the only game in town.
It gives you an option to move to the new setting. What I tried first was to swipe the button but nothing happened. Then I clicked on it and this opens up the new settings. And then I clicked it again and it went back to old dashboard setting and Hey Presto I have the old dashboard back. It doesn’t make sense but there you are.
And thanks to moderators on forum. WP does this sort of thing from time to time and probably it doesn’t get passed down the line to moderators who then have to deal with the likes of us shouting away ‘what’s going on’. The poor bloody infantry. So thank you.

@33blade it sounds like you might have encountered some cached versions of your dashboard pages.
Once you’ve got the unified navigation (whether the default which is mostly the newer dashboard, i.e. Calypso, pages or the advanced navigation pages, which are mostly the older WP Admin pages) you’ll get a jumble of the two different dashboards.
If you still see something different, try logging out of WordPress.com and then clearing your browser cache and cookies. If it continues to be an issue, please open a new support thread at https://wordpress.com/help/contact if you have any upgrade on your WPcom site, or https://wordpress.com/forums?new=1 to post here in the community forums. If you can add a screenshot of what you’re seeing, that would be great. https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/ Thanks.
I also added a comment in the feedback thread about the placement of the “Save interface settings” button.
And thank you also for your encouraging words. We longtime volunteers did get a heads-up on this change and as longtime volunteers we know that unhappy users usually post it to the forums.* :)

As far as the old dashboard v the new dashboard goes. I tend to use the classic dashboard but I use a lot of images and the new dashboard has some nifty options for images so I occasionally use the new dashboard.
This is an article of mine to say goodbye to 2020 but it shows what can be done with images on new dashboard. If you have the patience !

It certainly showcases it well.
Since this thread has gotten a little long and the original topic of returning to the Classic Editor has been resolved, I’ll go ahead and close it.
Folks, If any of you need further help navigating the new unified dashboard, please open a new forum thread for that. Thanks.
Cheers.
