New and have some questions

My first question is, I have signed up with some free sites that do pinging. But I find that I have to go back to these sites every time to ping. I am using the free version of wordpress.com and wondered if that kind of stuff (automatic pinging) is included.
Second question is, what are the major key advantages to upgrading to the fully customizable wordpress blog stuff?

First thing – we need a link to your wordpress.COM blog. And consider linking it in your user name as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.
Secondly – since you are new, I suspect you will have a lot of questions. So spend some time reading the FAQ and searching the forums. You’ll find that most of your questions have already been answered.

I actually thought my comment never appeared when I saw it last time few hours ago. I wrote it, hit the send and it was taking long so I clicked the x to close the tab. Apparently, the comment eventually did show up.

@arifsali-apparently vivianpaige was posting at the same time you closed the tab and it caused a rift in the space/time continuum because vivianpaige is entirely missing from this thread!
