New API needed
-
I recently moved my blog (myfrannybolsa.wordpress.com) to a new domain name (frannybolsa.com). I have a paid upgrade to redirect the old site to my new site. I have a new username for the new site. Same email for both sites.
On my new site I am attempting to download the WordPress stats plug in and need to get an API. When I try to log in using the username for my new site I get an error saying that my email is already in service.
If I try to log in WordPress.com (to get API) using the username from my old site I am being asked to reset my password. I’m unsure what to do because I don’t want to “break anything.

If you reset your password for your WordPress.com account, that will not change any information for your new, self-hosted site.
I would suggest inserting your email address in the following form http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword to reset your password.
Once you’re able to log into your old WordPress account, you can find your API key by visiting this page:

I was able to reset my password. Thank you.
If I log in using my old wordpress username to get the API won’t that API be for the old site? Since I now have the blog under my own domain does that essentially take it out of WordPress which is why I have to go through the old account to get the API.
I apologize if I’m being confusing… I’m not sure I understand the relationship between the old site and the new site clearly

No problem! I’m assuming that you’re using the WordPress.com Stats plugin with your new site — is this correct?
If so, we need the API key from your old site so that the WordPress.com servers can communicate with your host server. The API key confirms a connection between your self-hosted site and a WordPress.com account. With the plugin, a new blog ID (an identification marker for your self-hosted site) should appear in the coding to separate out the the site stats information.
Site stats are primarily counted based on your URL, rather than the API key. This means that visits to frannybolsa.com will be registered differently than those to myfrannybolsa.wordpress.com.
I hope that clarifies things!
