New audio player problem
-
I podcast audio pieces on my site using [audio ..]. All was fine with the old flash player. However with the new audio player, whenever someone accesses my site with the Internet Explorer browser, my downloads meter on another site registers a new download. This is even though the person has just visited my site and has not done a download or a play. The problem does not occur if the visitor uses Firefox or Chrome.
The problem occurs because Internet Explorer does not recognise the “preload” variable in the html5 for the audio player. Firefox and Chrome do recognise the “preload” setting you use.
So now I have a problem. My downloads statistics are no longer correct, and these statistics are important to me. Please help me.

Please be specific. Exactly which IE version are you referring to please? I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

I am using Internet Explorer version 11.0.9600.17420. All my mp3 are hosted elsewhere on another hosting site. I link to their url with the [audio http://....] shortcode. The other site has download stats meters. Everything used to work fine and I had stats on numbers of downloads or listens.
The only solution I can think of is for WordPress to give me an option (perhaps a new shortcode) to use their old flash player for certain situations, for my situation.
Nice to see you back timethief!

In other words, Internet Explorer “preloads” my linked mp3’s whereas Firefox and Chrome do not. The preloading clicks over my counter on my mp3 hosting site.

Hi there,
What service are you hosting your MP3 files with? I’d like to have as much information as possible that I can take with me when I put this in front of the folks who work on our audio player.
Thanks in advance!

OK
Lets look at this hymns podcast posting of mine with an audio shortcode [audio http://songsofhope883.com/2014/11/17/close-to-thee-all-things-lords-my-shepherd/%5D
My url in the shortcode I obtain from here, our WordPress.org parent radio site http://www.southernfm.com.au/music/16112014-songs-of-hope-podcast/ (the third audio down). I use the download url. This posting also shows the stats counter I use, currently at 226 downloads. This is the counter that increments when IE browser loads my posting above, even though the visitor has not clicked on the play button or done a right click and download. This is the problem, the false increase in statistics. I have tested this and it occurs as I describe.
But the mp3 is actually stored here http://southernfm-podcasts.s3.amazonaws.com/SOH-2014-11-16-CW-hymns-podcast-160.mp3 on s3 amazonaws

continued
The first link is http://songsofhope883.com/2014/11/17/close-to-thee-all-things-lords-my-shepherd
Thhe second link is http://www.southernfm.com.au/music/16112014-songs-of-hope-podcast
The address under the download button is http://www.southernfm.com.au/podpress_trac/web/26535/2/SOH-2014-11-16-CW-hymns-podcast-160.mp3
And the S3 url is http://southernfm-podcasts.s3.amazonaws.com/SOH-2014-11-16-CW-hymns-podcast-160.mp3
So my radio station uses WordPress for our home site, but uses a service on s3 to store our podcast mp3s

Thanks for providing that information. I have put this in front of some of our developers so that they can take a look at it.
I want to let you know immediately though that this may be considered somewhat of an edge case. Full functionality of the audio players is always going to be the highest priorities for our developers, and as long as they are working for as many of our users as possible then that’s going to be their goal. If they can make something work for you then they will, but if it impacts others then that will not be an option.
Just so that you’re aware!
