  Hello. I have just started a new blog and have encountered 3 issues that are making me highly frustrated!

  1. I have chosen the “Fanwood” design and note there is a line of marketing stuff involving wordpress. Can this be removed or edited?
  2. The design has two menus (is that what they are?) – Home and About – at the top of the page. I have tried to add new ones with no luck. I have tried adding menus with posts that I’ve saved in draft. Does it have to be posted before any new menus appear?
  3. Is it possible to populate the blog entirely without having to go ‘live’ as it goes?

  Finally, does anybody recommend a good wordpress book or magazine so I can try and avoid asking what are probably really stupid questions? At the moment, I want to stick with the free version.

  The footer credit is required for sites hosted at WordPress.com: http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

  You need to create a custom menu by following the instructions here:

  You can set the blog as private while you are still working on it.
