New blog

I have my blog ready to go. I can’t find it online. Is there something I need to do to make it public?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’m not sure what you mean. The site https://thedishingondining.wordpress.com/ has several posts published in May 2016, and another in July 2016. What makes you think the blog/site is not online? Or do you refer to a single post (some people call a post a blog)?
-
When I enter the website address I am taken to a page that says “Start Up Site” and it’s not my website.
-
What happens when you click on this link: https://thedishingondining.wordpress.com/? Or (if logged in) this one: https://thedishingondining.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?

Where are you entering the website address, and how are you entering it?
-
http://www.thedishingondining.com, which is our website name. I then see welcome to a “start up” site and across the bottom of the screen are blocks of posts in a different language.

Hi there,
The domain thedishingondining.com is currently pointed to a self-hosted site. Are you wanting the domain to point to your hosted here? http://thedishingondining.wordpress.com/
If so, you’ll need to change the nameservers of the domain over at the domain registrar.
For information on how to update your nameservers, please visit our support page:https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Thanks!

I am not understanding what I’m supposed to do. I was under the impression that by using WordPress to set up my blog that everything was a “step by step” foolproof process. This is not an area that I know anything about hence the purchase through WordPress. I am not savvy with any of this and I’m very discouraged. I just want a site that I can update and post to each month. I have everything on the blog that I wanted.

The site thedishingondining.com is not currently hosted on WordPress.com, but is rather a self-hosted WordPress.org site. Self-hosted sites are a little more difficult and involved to get started. For the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please visit our support page:
So, that is why I am asking if you are planning on using self-hosted WordPress.org for your site, or were you wanting to point your domain thedishingondining.com over to your site http://thedishingondining.wordpress.com?
I have everything on the blog that I wanted.
When you say that, are you referring to the blog thedishingondining.wordpress.com? If so, then you’ll want to use the domain thedishingondining.com with your WordPress.com site.
Let me know if this makes more sense for you.
Thanks,
-
I appreciate your reply. I don’t know. Which choice would be better and easier to manage? This is all a foreign language to me, sorry. When I say I have everything on the blog, it means all the content is there. I know you can’t make the decision for me but it would be great to get an opinion on which direction to go (you know, as though you are talking to someone who really doesn’t know what I’m doing but wants to anyway). Thanks!
-
Sure. I would say that WordPress.com is the more user-friendly out of the two. There is not as much to worry about compared to WordPress.org (like security issues and finding a host).
The link I provided earlier does provide the main differences and highlights of both options: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
The only reason I would hesitate on you moving to WordPress.com is that, as you mentioned, your content is already at WordPress.org. Are you paying monthly for hosting?
-
No. I’m not. I initially purchased the, I suppose, the WordPress web design and then started entering the different postings we wanted to use. I though once finished I would just “publish” and then we would be out there for readers. What other fees are involved other than the $99 for the mapping?
-
Nothing other fees are involved. Well, if you do not have active hosting for your WordPress.org blog yet, then I would definitely recommend moving your content over to WordPress.com.
We provide instructions on how to move your content from WordPress.org to WordPress.com:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
Let me know if you have any questions on the process.
Thanks!

When entering the link above I am seeing the information and understanding it but when I go into my site there is no option for “tools”. What am I missing?
-
Hi there,
When you log into the dashboard of your WordPress.org site, there should be a tools menu tab on the left side. Are you able to log in successfully?
-
When I click your link in the email there is a “tools” option under “plug ins” but I don’t have one.
-
Can you please take a screen shot to show us what you are seeing? We don’t have any access to your dashboard for that site, so the only way to see what’s going on is if you can show us.
After taking a screen shot, you can upload it here:
https://thedishingondining.wordpress.com/wp-admin/media-new.php
Then let me know and I can see it.
Make sure you take the screen shot of the dashboard at thedishingondining.com/wp-admin
