New blog, but I wangt to use a different user name

I know this question has been asked before, but I didn’t understand the answer.
I have an existing blog cheesewillsetusfree.wordpress.com, with the user name ‘Chester Crump’.
I want to keep this blog, but have just set up a new one called jameswardcomedywriter.wordpress.com. For this, I want to use the name ‘James Ward’.
At present, if I alter my user name on one, it alters it on the other. How do I separate them?

When we register a username account here the email address we provide becomes our unique identifier. When we are logged into WordPress.com and register a blog it’s registered to that username account we are logged in under and to the email address which is our unique identifier. We can register as many blogs as we wish and provided we are using the same username account then all the blogs will be registered under it and the associated email account. We can change our “display name” but that display name will appear on all blogs registered under the same username account.

In your case, you have not registered the second blog so you can register a different username with a different email address and register the new blog under it so the two blogs aren’t associated.

I have registered my second blog, in that it exists. (If that’s what you mean.)
I don’t understand how I register a new username. If I log out and log in again I’m asked what word[press account I;d like to register. If I try to register the new one it, not surprisingly, tells me I can’t because someone else has it (ie me).
Sorry to ask this question again, but could you explain, in simple language, how I go about the process.
I’m sure I;m missing something obvious here, but If you are able to help me, thank you in advance.
