New blog does not appear in reader

  Hi,

  My blog does not seem to appear in the reader. Basically I initially set up with a blog named http://daodyssey.wordpress.com and have had it since May, this morning I deleted it. Last night I set up a new blog http://staceyngwrites.wordpress.com/ and it is this blog that does not appear on my reader. All the blogs I follow on my reader are from my first blog. I am slightly confused how to ensure that my new blog appears in my reader, and that I can follow blogs with the new blog if that makes sense. On my list of blogs I follow, my own new blog comes up to ‘follow’ – is there a way in which my new blog becomes the main domain? Greatly appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on the matter.

  Did you Follow your new blog? If you just created it, instead of changing the URL from the old one to this new one, then nobody is following it. Your old readers are still at the old blog, which is entirely separate from this new one. And since you deleted it, they are never going to see your new posts.

  You can change the blog your username links to under Settings->Profile, under “Website.”

  I flagged this for staff just in case they can move the followers of your deleted blog to your new blog. In future, don’t do that. Creating new blogs does not mean the followers of one blog are automatically followers of the new blogs you create. That would be a huge privacy violation for a lot of WP.com users who like to keep their blogs very separate.

  Thanks for the swift response. I have followed your instructions. I understand, the fact is I no longer wanted my old blog to exist and do not expect my followers to be moved from the old blog to the new. What I am concerned with really is being able to have my new blog posts featured on a reader. Is there anyway I can create a new reader? Or how can I connect my new blog with my reader?

  There are two basic ways to have your site show up in the Reader:

  1. Followers – All blogs on WordPress.com are in available to be followed in the Reader. All that needs to happen is for someone to visit your blog and like it enough to follow it to follow, where it then appears in their Reader feed.
  2. Tags – The other way to have your blog show up is to use tags wisely so you can show up on tag pages in the Reader.

  I can see that you are following your own blog, which is a good way to test that it is showing up. I also noticed you are not using tags on any of your posts yet, so a good idea to start adding those as well.
