new blog / domain name / premium package purchase
-
I was researching registering a new domain name and starting a new blog (or adding a sub site to my current site) but didn’t actually purchase the name or premium upgrade yet, and now the new blog name is showing up on my list of blogs under my menu. Does that mean that I purchased the new name inadvertently? I didn’t go through any of the billing information forms but it’s showing up anyway.
What I was really trying to figure out was 1) whether or not the new domain name was available and 2) whether I could do a sub-site from my existing blog (with a different domain name, Information architecture and navigation) with the same structure and design…OR…do I need to start from the very beginning again?
If I do have to start fresh (in order to do a second site) then Id much rather purchase the premium upgrade with the domain name included.
thank you,
anthony ma

Hi there – You currently have two blogs, one with premium upgrade and domain mapping, but those upgrades were purchased a couple of months ago. I think you’re asking about this blog, yes?
http://amaadinfinitum.wordpress.com/You did not purchase anything for that blog.
You can check if the domain is available by looking it up here (it will tell you):
https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/But once you’re ready to register it, don’t do it there; do it through Store->Domains of the blog you want to use the domain for.
As far as creating a sub-blog, you can create a second blog with the same theme and copy over any of your CSS customizations, and set it up the same. Then, you can link the two using a custom menu:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-linksYou could even put your second blog on a subdomain of amagraphicdesign.com if you wanted, such as blog.amagraphicdesign.com
Let me know if you have further questions!

Hi Eurello,
Thank you so much for the information , it was very helpful….BUT…only leads me to more questions…sorry don’t mean to inundate you but i’ve been searching support and the forums for days and just can’t seem to find specific enough answers.
Yes < amaadinfinitum.wordpress.com > is the site i’m referring to and I was doing the search through the link you provided < https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/ >, however I had only typed the name in to see if it was available and now it’s added itself in my list as one of my blogs. I realize it’s a free domain so it’s not a big deal and I can delete it if or when the time comes.
The domain name that I’d really like to use is one that is also available < amaadinfinitum.com > which i will register and purchase through WP (whether it’s through another premium upgrade or not). I intend for the second site to link off of the current site but also be a stand alone site as well.
Here’s where I got confused:
1) I would like for this second site to mirror my current site < amagraphicdesign.com > in every way but the specific content. Meaning: keeping the design / composition and hierarchical structure, keeping the custom cascading menu structure (with new subject matter), new pages (with new subject matter).
2) If I do the second site as a sub blog can I then use the < amaadinfinitum.com > name as it’s domain name versus the subdomain form you show below (example: blog. amagraphicdesign.com) or does the sub site have to retain the < amagraphicdesign.com > domain?
3) Do sub sites retain the content of the parent site or are they stand alone? Meaning: if I set up the sub site and change the page content and therefore the menu titles, will that affect the parent site?
4) Is there a support page that would tell me how to create the sub blog (or new site) utilizing the customization i’ve already done on < amagraphicdesign.com >?
The simplest way to ask the main question is: can I set up a sub blog with the new domain name and retain all of the customized qualities from the parent site and have the sub blog act as a stand alone site? OR does what I want to achieve require me to buy another premium upgrade (with the new domain name included) and re do all of the customization?
Sorry for the long winded question…i’m trying to be as clear as I can here…whew! I’m hoping that by describing what I want to achieve, you’ll be able to tell me what I need to purchase and where the right support resources might be.
thanks again

Hi Anthony –
The simplest way to ask the main question is: can I set up a sub blog with the new domain name and retain all of the customized qualities from the parent site and have the sub blog act as a stand alone site? OR does what I want to achieve require me to buy another premium upgrade (with the new domain name included) and re do all of the customization?
The latter – you would have to buy a Custom Design upgrade or Premium upgrade for the new site and copy over your customizations.
You can register the new domain for the second site. It will have to have an underlying .wordpress.com URL, as all blogs here do, but I think you understand that.
My suggestions were for how to make your two sites *look* cohesive and linked together, but they will still be two separate sites. It’s not possible to have a sub-site in the way that you describe, but it is possible to achieve that effect by making two sites match in appearance and linking them together in one of the ways I described.
Does that clear things up? Let me know if you have more questions. :)

Hi Eurello
I have been plugging away at my new site and ran into some CSS / typography issues. I managed to get pretty close to what I’m trying to achieve but hit a dead end and the happiness engineer that was helping me is stumped too. I wonder if you could look at my forum topic and maybe you might know how to achieve what i’m attempting?
the topic is:
Is there a way to letter space or kern the type in the menus and titles?i’ve included the url for the specific Q&A:
FYI: I was able to track (letter space) my titles and menus but now i’d like to be able to specify certain words or types of words (all caps or caps and lower case) to track differently.
Thanks again

Hi Anthony – I don’t know that it’s possible to do that. But I suggest you ask the experts in the CSS Customization forum to make sure:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customizationThey might know a way to do what you’re after. :)
