New Blog Editor: Entire Article Text not selectable, and ‘Justify’ missing

  • Unknown's avatar

The new Blog-Editor does not have the Ability, to select all Text in the Article, nor to format all Text in an Article quickly, thusly – nor, to ‘justify’ the Text, so it is equally lined-up on the left and right side.

The Text in the new Blog Editor gets – badly – cut apart into socalled ‘Boxes’ and is not selectable, in Total, as said, – and the ‘Justify’ Text-Format Option is missing, as said.

These are the sole Flaws of the new Editor, which until July 2020 deserves to be improved insofar, so that People are not ‘shocked’ about these two missing Functions, Select All Text (so the Text is in total selectable, of the entire Article), and ‘Justify’. Thanks for improving that.

When I namely rightclick “select all” inside the Article, in the new Editor, then, merely that ONE Paragraph, socalled “Box” of Text, gets selected – AND NOT the entire Article.

Whenever I select the entire Article, only possible in the new Editor by using Shift and then going from the first Position of the Article BY THE MOUSE by scrolling down and keeping Shift held, to the End of the Article, – then I press the Menu-Option “Group”, – but when I AGAIN select a Place in Text, then, the entire Article is again un-grouped, simply – and ANY Text-Formattings are applying ALWAYS only to ONE Paragraph, to one “Text-Box”, but not to the entire Article. Thusly, editing an Article, is entirely impossible, with the new Editor, foremostly concerning the needed “Justify” Text-Formatting Option, which even is likewise missing, as said, in the new Editor.

Authors need to be able, to SELECT the ENTIRE Article, and to have the Text-Formatting Option called “Justify”.

  • Hi there!

You can justify the text in the new editor. In the Paragraph Block, you will want to click on the little arrow pointing down, which will open up More Options:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/paragraph-block/#block-toolbar

The Block Editor allows you to create blocks and gives you way more control over the layout of your page. If you wish, however, you can group block together:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/group-block/

On June 1st, we will retire the Classic Editor so I would really encourage you to give the new Block Editor a second chance, however, you will still be able to use the Classic Editor:

    https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/

We have a very detailed guide that will help you make this change more smooth but we are also here to clarify anything further. If you have any particular questions, let us know.

You can also use the Classic Block within the new editor, it looks just like the Classic Editor, have a look:

If you paste your article into the new editor it makes every paragraph a separate “paragraph block.” It is no longer continuous text, but a stack of blocks, each one needing to be formatted separately. This is supposed to be a feature.

    @fresatomic

I followed your advice and successfully grouped multiple paragraphs using the paragraph block, so thanks for that.

However, this does not solve guitarsophist’s problem. If one selects multiple paragraphs within a group, the paragraph block options are reduced and the justify option becomes unavailable. Unless I am mistaken, the only way to justify the text is to select each paragraph individually, even if the paragraphs have been grouped.

For a lengthy blog post, justifying each paragraph separately can take several minutes. This is a severe downgrade from the previous editor: one only needed to press CtrA and then click justify, which took two seconds.

Please include an option to justify multiple paragraphs within a group. Better yet, include the option to justify multiple paragraphs without having to group them together.

Other than this limitation, I find the new editor to be a great improvement; but the inability to instantly justify text will surely put many people off using WordPress altogether.

  • Please include an option to justify multiple paragraphs within a group. Better yet, include the option to justify multiple paragraphs without having to group them together.

This is something that would have to come from WordPress.org, where this editor is developed. I found a discussion there about this already and have added your request, but I can’t make any promises that something like this will be introduced – that’s ultimately up to the community who makes the WordPress software.

Exactly. I will reply in some few Days. Dear good People here, You have all given the REALLY best PC-Support here, ever. So complete! I yet say, NORMALLY, I have so much Time, but I am stressed now, to find a cheaper Apartment, LOL. From this small Problem, relatively solved now, to THE WORLD’s. ! :)

I will in some few Days closely read this above, your excellent Help, – main Thing is, the new Editor should be able, to by a really SIMPLEST Mouse-Right-Click and “Select All” mark ALL the Text of the Article.

That the old Editor IS STILL usable, IS AS cool, as on Wix, if They also for now many Years KEEP their old actual “Flash”-Editor, which IS “more roundly usable”, has more Options, is of course “in its way” more “mature”, than the new Editor. Similar is it YET here.

But simply, “select all” MUST result in ALL the Text of the Article getting selected, and in, as also the other Blogger above clearly says, and in the Formatting Options then not getting “visually lost” in the Formatting Options Panel above the Blog Article Text and other Article Content.

This can without stress be realised, integrated, this Select All Function, – while Users here on WP can until now CALMLY rely on using THE OLD by us known Editor. SO great! I didn’t expect this to go so smoothly, and so completely. THANKS MEGA for your GREAT Help! Til in some fewest Days. BUDS! CORONA ELM STREET HAHA I wrote my recentest Article, LOL, title shoulda been “streets empty”, unlol “…”, but don’t let your hair down, we are naught clown. :)

Adding my voice to the chorus: Cannot justify an entire page any more. MUST go one. block. at. a. time. They completely, utterly fouled up here.

I GOT IT (MY “GOD”, LOL: :) ):

WE GOTTA create a “Preformatted Custom Box”, by clicking on the ” + ” Button, then before inserting the anyhow LONG Text, we define that Custom Box as a “GROUP”:

When we now click INTO this first or whatever “CUSTOM PREFORMATTED” Box, our Text we want to Publish, THEN, when we NOW rightclick-menu-wise select “select all”, then ALL the Text GETS, IS, then, selected — !

    :)

    Case SOLVAED.

But foremostly politically, I value the People, who here have re-traced the Problem exactly. Whereas the Staff technically “didn’t help”, but didn’t “foul up” either, but it’s now simply the “pre-formatted” “custom” Box, which We create, to “create” a Box “for a long Text”, for Example – which THEN IS all in all, in total, SELECTABLE, pre-grouped, because BEFORE Text-Insertion defined as “Group”, and now, ALL that inserted whatever Text, is IN TOTAL editable, – easily. But as said, politically, I VALUE the good FREE SPEECH of the Critics. As I am PC-Supporter since 20 Years, of course, it’s always so, that some Things have to be, gotta be, found out by Oneself. :) Also in Reality. Am i da FBI or what. lucky that not? Read ma Site n believe me, politically. :)

    I was wrong:

The Option “Justify” is not available, although I can by my described method now select all the Text. Also, the Option “Text Color” LEADS simply NOWHERE, no Window pops up.

I might have taken the wrong “Preset” of a Type of Box, maybe. I will try again, but maybe, the new Editor is not riped-out, not mature, has certain actual Bugs, – the here described ones, no “Justify” nor even Center nor Left- nor Right-sticking Options, and Text Color Option is an “inactive” Option, does nothing.

This in the new Editor. I’ll try again and report.

Both in the “Classic” and “Preformatted” type of “Boxes”, in the new Editor, the “JUSTIFY” Option for Text-Formatting, is MISSING, was simply “FORGOTTEN”. Text Color Option actually works.

But, the new Editor is – simply – indeed not usable, because the “Justify” Option, which makes the Text neatly sticking to both right and left Edges, is missing, simply –

The Problem is simply that, that even in the “Classic” Textbox-Preset, the “Justify” Option was forgotten, by the Developers.

Also, as said, very sadly, the “Preformatted” Textbox Preset ALSO has “Justify” Option missing.

If that would be integrated, that would simply even be needed, but also great:

Since thusly, People wouldn’t for now even need and prefer, to click the three Dots on the upper right Screen, then Settings, then the lowest Option which is “Return to using old Editor”, simply.

    So the Critics were correct.

And admittedly, I was somewhat “struck” negatively by that other short Replier, who merely Usage-wise illogically stated, that these new “Boxes” “are so”: The new Editor is simply not usable, – with “JUSTIFY” Option missing – in the two Presets supposed to be there for PROPER Text-Formatting, also of long Texts, which are the Presets “Preformatted Text” and “Classic”. That latter “Classic” Preset of a Textbox looks neat – but has “Justify” missing.

And normal Textboxes are awful, as EVERY Return-Line-End Sign gets wrongly interpreted by the new Editor, AS A “NEW”, further, different new Textbox: Thusly, the User gets “fopped” by having to FOR EVERY Paragraph, merely in normal Textboxes, resort to impossiby in long Articles define EVERY Paragraph SEPARATELY, which would be A HORRENDOUS unneeded time-consuming impossiblity, in long Articles with many PARAGRAPHS, simply. So, it would be best, if normal Textboxes would not separate Paragraphs of inserted Text into DIFFERENT, but into the SAME Textbox, where then, ALL the inserted Text is selectable IN TOTAL: This ALSO in normal Textboxes, is of course so-wisheable, desirable, of course.

But it would suffice, if the “Justify” Text-Formatting Option would be integrated, as it was simply yet forgotten, into the two for long (“Blog”-) Texts meant Presets “Preformatted” and “Classic”.

But of course, here, the new Editor HAS “more Options”, all in all, has really NEAT Abilities, to insert cool Stuff, such as some many Widgets. Thusly, WE DO as Users hope, that simply the “JUSTIFY” Text-Formatting Options gets “unforgotten”, re-remembered, LOL, re-integrated, integrated, into the new Editor of WordPress.

Then, People will be – quite – content, technically. It’s an “easy” Point.

I’d just like to see, whenever the old Editor WOULD not be available anymore (let that Day never come), that that Justify Option gets integrated into the new Editor. Because, it simply looks better, motivates more to Reading, if the Text is also on the right Side justified, ending on one vertical invisible Line, simply. It looks merely superficially more ordered, but IS the proper Way, to publish.

Millions of People few Years ago demonstrated on Facebook, so Facebook wouldn’t “go commercial”, wouldn’t demand money from all Users.

With some Effort, I can also seek other Methods, as I am quite versed at Computing, to publish my Articles, than on WordPress. Yet of course, WordPress IS quite cool – though, one small, not SO small Offstrike from it is, that non-paying Users can’t integrate Audio-Files. Would be nice, if that would be possible, soon, also for non-paying Users. I can’t simply pay for this n that, You know.

But I thank YOU ALL for YOUR TIME. I’ll use the old Editor for now, pressing the Thumbs for the good Devs, so They’re not stressed, and neatly easily with no hassle, integrate the forgotten “Justify” Option into our two “Bloggers'” “Preformatted” and “Classic” new Textboxes-Presets. :)

Also, “Underline” belongs in the new Editor’s Panels for the “Preformatted” and “Classix” Textboxes’ Panels, right besides “Bold” and “Italic”, and as said, “Justify” belongs also, likewise, as Button, right besides “Left-Aligned”, “Right-Aligned” and “Centered”, of course, as Text-Formatting Functions.

As said, if the new Editor’s normal Textboxes wouldn’t interprete every empty line as Separator between different Textboxes, OR if as said, MERELY the two “Preformatted Text” and “Classic” Textbox-Presets would feature the “Justify” Text Formatting Option, then, that would solve the entire Problem.

ALSO, if I may, I’d like to USE that Opportunity, to ALSO quite voice my Desire, Wish, for a FONT-Selection Option, Function, inside the Panel of the “Classic” new Editor Textbox-Preset, –

when I interestingly namely, btw said, when I select the other “Preformatted Text” Textbox-Preset, and then I integrate from my Host OS (Computersystem, Linux, Debian-like, Sparky Linux) a Text (from a normal “Leafpad”, the Linux Text-Editor), then, even the ACTUAL Font I use (which is “Sharetech Mono”), gets “TAKEN”, integrated, into that Text-Field of the “Preformatted” Textbox-Type, -Preset. But I wouldn’t know, whether publishing that, would then result in actually [!], which might be a Solution, in simply the Text getting displayed, truly “as is”, – whereas in THAT Case, the User would simply have to actually have a pre-justified Text: If the Font is in Monospace (all the same Spaces at every Letter), then, the “Preformatted” Textbox-Preset WOULD also “TAKE”, integrate, that, directly, with the integrated Text.

But of course, as People also use non-monospace type of Fonts, we still do need the “Justify” Function, as a Button, in the Panel of surely the “Classic” Textbox-Preset:

Which could, as said, also feature a Function to select the Font.

Because, many People prefer, to use a simple “Notepad”, to type, and surely not “Word”-like huge Programs, to merely type, of course. Such small “Notepad”-like Programs such as “Leafpad” on Linux, simply don’t have any Text-Formatting Options. So I can’t quite uncomplicatedly easily pre-format my Text to be “justified” on both sides of the Text.

Also, to integrate a Custom Font, which the also non-paying User could simply upload, a plain normal TTF Truetype Font, – that would be great.

The sole other Problem I have on wordpress, are the Titles of Articles, which on the Site are displayed in white Text Color, because the “Color Presets” of the WordPress-Website are quite “fix”, and Custom Color Presets are not doable, in that Menu there. Would be nice, if not only the Article Text Color, but also the Title Text Color could be actually either defined INSIDE the Article Editor, OR in the Settings of the WordPress Website, where simply, better than now, Custom Colors could be selected, which define then the Colors-Palette, simply, as that’s there called.

But I AM very happy, that really, other People also care about that. WordPress IS mainly SO great. Just those Flaws I reported, and it’s easy, to correct that. I hope, these two, three main Points get integrated soon, which are, a) “Justify”-Integration into “Classic” Textbox-Panel, b) Custom Font Selection Function in the “Classic” Textbox-Panel, c) Putting “Underline” besides “Bold” and “Italic”, in the “Classic” Textbox Panel, d) New Option to upload custom Truetype TTF-Fonts, and finally e) New Ability to select custom Colors to define Custom self-done Color-Palettes for the WordPress own Website (which then also affects the actual Color of Titles of Articles shown on the Website by mere Title).

And if I may yet say shortly: WordPress is technically now a rather great combination of reading and of writing.

It would be AWESOME, if the Users could integrate Custom Fonts: AND, additionally, to then also get able, to IN wordpress edit the Text even “graphically”, by putting many Effects, also moving Effects, which make the Text move, or the Colors switch Hue, Shade, according to some mathematical Parameters, which the User could set: So Colors could flicker, Texts could be made even into “Intro” Style, with MANY Effects, and the Text would also “wobble” or move otherwise around, by own User-Custom-Definition of Parameters, and by Presets, for Example for a “Matrix”-Effect, where the Text-Letters the User wrote, “fall down” from the upper Edge of the Screen, LOL. :) Or a Preset, where the User could display different Sorts of “Books”, that look different, and that contain the actual by the User written, inserted Text: Such an “old Book” Preset is there on “wix dot com”, but that’s there graphical-only, and held in “Flash” (which Flash will never “die”).

To thusly “pimp up” the Text by Effects, would be great. I’m greatful for ANY Point realised here. I’d also like so much the Ability, as non-paying User, to upload Audio-Files. I woulnd’t upload huge such Audio-Files, but just small “Robo-Voice” Messages. :)

We End with the Joke: “No Keyboard connected. Press any Key to continue”, LOL. :)
