New blog, getting "user cannot edit posts"
-
I have just set up an account and a blog but I am getting the “user cannot edit posts” error, right from the beginning. I have logged out and in and cleared cookies. I can edit my profile, and it goes to the edit screen for my blog, but doesn’t let me save posts.
Also, the old stats screen shows this error:
You are not a member of this site.
If you have just installed the WordPress.com Stats plugin, this error probably appeared because the API key entered in the plugin belongs to a different WordPress.com user account.
It looks to me like my account creation has gone wrong in some way
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, are you talking about the above site or perhaps a different website? If a different one, please post the URL starting with http://
This type of problem usually occurs when you are not logged in with the correct username account.

Ah, you’re right, I think, sort of. I created an account and it immediately dropped me into the post creation page, but maybe that wasn’t the post creation for my blog. Is it trying to add posts to the “root” wordpress.com blog, perhaps?
If I switch to my own blog page, and then go to the dashboard from there, everything looks completely different, and it works provided I add a post from the sidebar rather than the top ribbon.
It seems odd to me that there is a button at the top of the screen to add a post, and when I click it it has my blog name at the top (under the ribbon), but that isn’t how I post to my blog. However, I now know what to do.

There is definitely still something wrong. Even when I’m looking at my first post, with the url https://improprietaryinfluence.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php , there is an “Edit” button at the bottom, and that links to https://wordpress.com/post/83596554/3 , which does not work, presumably because it’s not my blog. As before, I can work around it by editing the post from the dashboard page, so I’m not reallly too bothered, but I wouldn’t call the issue resolved.

WordPress.com in its wisdom, introduced 2 entirely separate ways to publish and edit a post: both in the Classic WP Dashboard and in the new “improved” posting experience in the blue Dashboard.
If you are logged in with the correct user account, you should be able to access and edit the post in either place.
Regardless, I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance. They will be able to see something amiss behind the scenes that I cannot. Please be patient while they get back to you.

Hi there!
I just took a look and I don’t see anything wrong with your account set up. Are you still having trouble with this? Can you try clearing your cache and cookies:

It seems that the new mechanism for new/editing posts is broken. The only way to fix it is to force it to use the old mechanism by going to:
https://yourblogname.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
or https://yourblogname.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php -
