New Blog Post Categories Dont Show on Home Page

  Hi All,

  So I created new blog post categories. They work perfectly but don’t show up on my home page. When I change the category to one of the older ones then it shows up on the home page. Any ideas?

  Hey,

  Do you have posts assigned to those new categories? A category will not display until you publish at least one post that you assign to the category.

  Yes I have a few posts assigned to those categories. If I assign it to one of the new categories and one of the older ones at the same time then it shows. But if its just in the new category I created it does show.

  Its like my home page does feature posts from the new categories I created. I cant see a setting for this.

  I created the category exactly like one of the older ones.

  I assume you meant it does not show if it’s only in the new category?

  There’s one thing that comes to mind. Your theme might have a setting that only lists blog posts on the home page that fit certain criteria (such as being assigned to a specific category).

  Or, if you use a Blog Posts block, it has “Display Settings” where you can select which categories it displays posts from. See here for more on that.

  The reason why I think you might be affected by this is that when you assign a post to an old category (while also assigning to the new one), the post displays correctly on the home page, but when you only assign it to the new category, it doesn’t. Hence it looks like your home page is set to display posts from the old categories, but not set to display posts from the new categories. To display the post, it doesn’t need to belong to both categories (old and new) – it’s enough it only matches one category that has been set to display posts on the home page.

  I’m only a volunteer here though, so I’m unfortunately unable to check your site and settings.

  Do you remember ever having set what categories’ posts are shown on the home page? Could you check if your home page is using the Block Posts block?
