new blog site on WP

I thought Word Press was free…but I keep seeing notifications about how I need to pay them $48. Also, I was eventually able to try a new blog site, and got confirmation, but it doesn’t look anything like my old ones…with none of the features. What gives?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    hi,

There is a free plan available on https://wordpress.com/pricing/.
The $48 is for the Personal Plan.
If you recently paid $48 and after looking at the features on https://wordpress.com/pricing/, you decide that Personal Plan is not what you need, please feel free to request a refund within 30 days.

What features are missing for you ?

    The features missing are:
    1) change font color
    2) horizontal line
    3) strikethrough
    4) “special characters”
    5) redo/undo

and a few others that I don’t really care about.

Maybe those functions are only available with the Quintus theme, but I can’t find Quintus anywhere in the theme selection. There are quite a few theme selections available, but none of them say what functions are available in the toolbar. So unless one wants to go to what seems to be elaborate trouble of changing a theme, just to see what’s in the toolbar, there is no way of knowing. Or, maybe those functions can be added to the theme I happened on “Independent Publisher 2” — but there doesn’t seem to be any indication how to do that.

    Helllllllp!

The toolbar is the same in the post/page editor whatever theme you choose. Just click on the three dots (toggle advanced) to reveal the second line of the toolbar.
PS: If you prefer the old dashboard just add /wp-admin to your site address and bookmark it if you don’t have a /wp-admin link bottom left of your menu.

Ah, thanks! I did find the full toolbar when I clicked on the “Switch to the improved editor” link at the top and found the 3 mystery dots. (Frankly, I don’t see how it’s “improved” but, let it be).

So now I can use the full toolbar, using the “improved” editor. But I’m confused what is meant by adding “/wp-admin” to my “site address”. I do have the “WP-ADMIN”button at the bottom of my regular page but I don’t see how I add “/wp-admi” to my site address with that button. Or do you mean, I can just go to “WP-ADMIN” whenever I want to use the old reliable perfectly functional editor?

    hi,

“Switch to the improved editor” link at the top and found the 3 mystery dots. (Frankly, I don’t see how it’s “improved” but, let it be).
There are now two editors in WordPress, the previous editor and a new improved editor.
Not everyone agrees the latter is improved :-). But we are improving it from feedback like yours so that more people will like it.

If you like adding pictures to your posts, you will like this new feature in the new editor.
