new blog – wont navigate from 'home page' to admin

I have just set up a new blog as my research had me believe that wordpress is great. I managed to register user name and blog with no problem. I then used activation link in the email which opened my blog with the standard ‘hello world’ message. Within the message are links to the dashboard and to personalise/make changes ie set it up in the way I want to, choose theme etc etc. I have spent the last 24 hrs trying to do this. Each time I try to open any link ( be it through links in text, tabs at top in ‘My Blog’ or side bar) I keep getting to a page with a list of unformatted plain text – mainly in blue links but they dont open. Just to get to this page is very very slow.
I am ready to give up before I get started I am so very frustrated.
I am using a Mac laptop ( but tried on desk top and same problem). Software is up to date.
Browser is Safari. I have emptied cache, cookies etc as per troubleshooting – no change
As you may gather I am not massively tech savvy so any help would be most welcome.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Try accessing these three links. They are CSS files (should look like a bunch of text). Let us know if you can access them or not, and if so, which can’t you access.

the first one wont open – get he safari browser message ‘cannot open thi spage , server not responding’
the second and third ones open very quickly ( with just a screen of text , as you said’when I got on computer now:
wordpres.com home page opens quickly ( with my username in tabs at top)
when I try to navigate to dashboard in drop down menu it ( to a /wp-admin) page it just tries to open it – after a few mnutes still nothing loaded.
Forum link on homepage loaded from home page but pretty slowthanks for your help so far. really appreciate it. I want this to work :-)

If the first link is not opening, then there is something blocking it most likely. Are you perhaps at work behind a network firewall? Of do you have some sort of internet security program or firewall installed on your computer?

I am at home – I am a bit clueless about the firewalls but will look into the settings etc – may have something to do with wireless security settings ???
We dont have a security program like Norton or Macafee as our whole home network is Mac.
I will also try and see what happens if I try at work later today – that is a PC based network ( but definitely has security settings).
I will let you know what happens.
If nothing else this troubleshooting will open my brain to more about how my computer works LOL -
Yeah, something in your internet setup or in your computer is blocking some of the wordpress CSS files (on the s0.wp.com server) so that stuff isn’t loading when you try and go to the dashboard.
You might also talk with your ISP about it and give them that URL you are having issues with as they might have some security software that is blocking it.

have logged on with no problem at work. Everything loads quickly and smoothly.
Different computer ( PC not Mac); different ISP too.
I guess that means the problem is somewhere in either my computer or my ISP.
I will try a friend’s computer – she has a PC but has same ISP as my home computer.
I might need to find a geek to come and help at home but at least I am nearer to sorting the problem. I cant thank you enough for your help, sacredpath -
If you are on a laptop, or can easily transport your Mac (iMac?) to a place that has a different ISP, you can try that as well.
Did you by chance try a different browser from your computer?

with your help I have narrowed down the problem – with my husbands help this evening we have been unplugging and bypassing/ changing modems and Time capsule.
By going back to our old ADSL1 modem and bypassing time capsule – voila – it all works!! So looks like the major part of the problem is the newest stuff. We will get these non working appendages sorted! At least with the old goods I can now play around with a blog!
