New blogger needs help with pingbacks/trackbacks

Have read the wordpress instructions on links, pingbacks and trackbacks but still unclear about a few basic points.
First when I link to another wordpress or non-wordpress blog how does the pingback or trackback actually appear on the other blog -is it a link back to my blog? Second I think I ‘ve understood from the instructions that trying to link to a non-wordpress blog is done by way of a trackback and that I need to click on the words ‘URI /trackback’ on the other blog to paste a link on my own blog -but am never able to find these words on other blogs.
Finally where someone else links to my blog is it possible to moderate (approve/unapprove) incoming pingbacks or trackbacks as with other comments?
I realise these are very basic questions. All answers are appreciated.

I’ve read all the support articles I can find about pingbacks and find them very vague too. I just started blogging in January. I want to know how to make pingbacks with the post title and author as a link inside my post. I see it done on lots of blogs and can’t understand how other bloggers can have hundreds of pingbacks/trackbacks. Are they manually typing all this out or is there some way to just insert the info into the post? I wish they would revise the support article with some real life examples and a step by step how to create a pingback/trackback to another blog.

That’s not a pingback. Please give me a link to a site that is doing what you describe and I can tell you what it is. But it’s not a pingback.

To create a pingback, you link to a blog. IF the blogger there has enabled pingbacks, it will show up down by the comments section automatically. Some bloggers “curate” them and remove ones that they don’t want to show.

I’ve figured out some of the answers now – not all of them, but some. The links I kept seeing were made with the press this bookmarklet – found in the dashboard- tools menu:

    Press This
Press This is a bookmarklet: a little app that runs in your browser and lets you grab bits of the web.

Use Press This to clip text, images and videos from any web page. Then edit and add more straight from Press This before you save or publish it in a post on your site.

Drag-and-drop the following link to your bookmarks bar or right click it and add it to your favorites for a posting shortcut.

It does make nice links because when you use the bookmarklet app it gives the title of the post and the name of the blog.
What I haven’t figured out is the difference between the ways that these pingbacks display on a blog – for example: http://seikaiha.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/daily-prompt-three-coins-in-the-fountain/ here they are displayed in a list – is this by the blog author or is this the list of blogs who linked to the post?
Another example is on my blog: http://advocacyautismspecialneeds.wordpress.com/2014/02/12/help-my-valentine-smells-like-poop/ pingbacks are mixed between comments.
