New bugs or stupid changes on the site
-
-I cannot access the top button or scroll tab while editing a document becase a drop down appears and prevents me. Please change this.
-I can no longer access the settings menu. I can add categories only after I hit ‘publish,’ and it takes an enormous amount of dexterity because if I miss the checkbox, the menu disappears, and I cannot get it back. Now I have a bunch of posts that say ‘Uncategorized’ or don’t include all the relevant categories because I can’t go back in and add them,–the option isn’t there that I can find.
-Could you please stop with the autocorrect on HTML, or at least make it possible to disable? The amount of work added because of a typo like ‘</a<‘ is enormous!
-Please fix the copy and paste. Sometimes I’m trying to cop[y and paste one thing, but it captures multiple blocks that become duplicated and hard to get rid of. Very often, I am trying to copy and paste an entire line, but it copies a block or multiple blocks. There is no simple correction for this, and I often need to back out of the document and re-edit. Highlighting the unwanted area and hitting backspace accomplishes absolutely nothing and gets me extremely irritated because that method is conventional for editing online or in a word processing program.

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out.

Can you tell us which page/post you’re editing please? Also to check, can you confirm, is the top button appearing in the editor?

Interesting, are you able to provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing please? This should be visible in the top right hand corner to activate. This has not been removed from the editor.

What HTML are you adding exactly?
You may need to add this via a code block as a reply to this post.

I’d like to replicate the behaviour you’re seeing. Can you tell us the name of the post, and the content you’re copying and pasting please?
Many thanks!

Here you see the scroll bar has completely disappeared under the dropdown bar.

As stated in the original post, what caused the trouble was “</A<“–a simple typo that caused the bookmark tag that it was supposed to close to be repeated over and over. That is not helpful automation. Thankfully, it stopped when it hit more HTML Sometimes it goes crazy, and I have to paste the entire thing in Notepad to get rid of unwanted HTML, which is usually the result of a simple typo such as the wrong angle bracket, a comma or period instead of an angle bracket from not hitting shift hard enough, etc. Such a simple typo can create a massive amount of work because of things WordPress does spontaneously in response to the error.
I attempted to upload an image showing the categorization options being absent from the memo, but got an error message saying that uploads aren’t allowed, so I don’t know how to respond to your request for an image. As I stated in the original post, recently I have not been able to find this menu anymore except after I hit publish and before I hit publish again to confirm. Clicking the boxes requires the utmost precision, or the menu disappears. Publishing and attempting to edit to add categories similarly has not shown me that menu.

“File uploading is disabled. Please use an image block and an external image URL.”
I don’t know why you even ask if you’re going to disable it.

Hi there,
Our team is looking into the file uploading issue. That is a new feature of the redesign, so we’re still working out the last few kinks. In the meantime you can upload the image to your media library, then copy the URL to the image. That URL can be pasted into your response here and we will be able to see it that way.
Here you see the scroll bar has completely disappeared under the dropdown bar.
I checked the post you are referring to, based on you screenshot, and I have to say it’s an enormously long page that has over 100,000 words. That is typically equivalent to the length of a standard novel, and it’s really a lot more content than a single content block (the classic block) was ever designed to deal with. I’ve reported this issue to our developers to see if a floating toolbar is feasible, but I’m not sure that is something we will be able to implement. With that in mind I’d like to focus on a workaround that will allow you to edit the page as usual.
I do see that you have been working on that page for quite some time (pre-dating our block editor) and with this in mind I’d actually recommend that you continue to work on this page within the native classic editor. You can access any page in this way by going here, and then clicking on the option to edit in the classic editor. You will see the option appear when you hover over any page title: https://scottandrewhutchins.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page
For example, this is the direct link to your Music Collection page in the classic editor: https://scottandrewhutchins.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1469&action=edit&classic-editor
It takes some time to load (again because it has so much content) but you will see that if you scroll down in the native classic editor the formatting tool will follow. You are welcome to use the classic editor to edit any of our older or longer pages and blog posts. The instructions to access it in the future can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/classic-editor-guide/

Even on short pages, it’s still annoying that the up arrow isn’t available because other methods tend to jump too much.

Hey there,
Even on short pages, it’s still annoying that the up arrow isn’t available because other methods tend to jump too much.
Do you have an example of a short page?
-
Long enough to need to scroll: https://scottandrewhutchins.wordpress.com/2023/02/28/another-thing-eric-adams-is-too-stupid-and-or-evil-to-understand/

Thanks for that link. I’m not sure I understand exactly what seems to be the issue on this one? The only content on the post is a Twitter message image, which doesn’t need scrolling to get to the bottom of the post. I can see, however, that you may need to scroll to get past your menu – is this what you’re referring to?
Have you considered creating drop-down menus, so that it does not take up so much space?
A dropdown menu, or sub-menu, shows additional items when you hover or click on an item in your menu. They can be useful for keeping your menu clean and organized. This guide will show you how to create a drop-down menu. 📌 To understand which section of this guide to follow, visit your dashboard and check under Appearance on the left side. The last comment asked me to show a short page, so I did. I really don’t understand why you fail to see that covering the up arrow is a nuisance.
-
How about this page for one that’s significantly shorter than the one I’ve been criticized for its length?

Hi @scottandrewhutchins, that page uses the new Block Editor, while the other one is composed with the Classic Editor.
What exactly is the issue you’re having with navigating that page? You mentioned that the “up arrow” doesn’t appear. Is that the arrow on your browser’s scroll bar?
Also, attaching a screenshot of what you see when editing that page would be helpful.

As I’ve said, I’ve tried attaching a screen shot, but it keeps insisting on a URL As I’ve shown in the above graphic, the up arrow gets covered by the drop-down when you attempt to use it. I’m not sure what part of that you don’t understand. The graphic I was able to include in the original post shows the up arrow being covered up. I’m not sure why I have to keep explaining these concepts.

Hi there!
Apologies for the issue you faced earlier with uploading screenshots. The issue has since been fixed, so you should now be able to upload images/screenshots as before.
We’ve tried to replicate this on our end, and the up arrows seem to be visible. You can see that here:

Even with a longer piece where we have to scroll down, the up arrow from the browser’s scrollbar remains visible. See here:

Could you confirm this was the up arrow you were referring to? Also, in your screenshot, I noticed there’s an update available for Chrome. Could you try updating Chrome to the latest version and see if that solves the issue?
Thanks!

Hello there!
I’ve shown in the above graphic, the up arrow gets covered by the drop-down when you attempt to use it

It looks like you’re referring to the options – is this tool tip always present in your browser? It shouldn’t be active all the time, only when hovering over those three dots.
Many thanks.

And now I don;t know where to find the thing to order pages. It’s like you’re hiding these things from long-time users. https://scottandrewhutchins.wordpress.com/films-in-my-collection-by-director/
