  Hi, I want to start an open collaborative project using a piece of text as a jumping off point. I’ll publish the text and ask for artists to take it and create something with it: music, art, dance, writing, anything. What’s the best forum for this? I already have a blog that I barely write on (which I mean to remedy), but should I start one for this here or is Facebook a better place for it? Thanks.

  You can post your original text sample as a post, and then your visitors can post their responses in the comments.

  That’s not exactly what I’m looking for. I’d like to have lots of users coming to the site to post their activity, not necessarily in the form of comments. Should I be looking at a website rather than a blog?

  I was just reading a little about a multi-user website through WordPress. What would I need to do for that?

  You would need to add each person as an author to set this idea up on WordPress.com.

  Important: Be mindful of the roles that you give users on your blog. For example, if you add a user as an Editor and then they delete all the posts on your blog, they have not “hacked” your site or done anything they were not permitted to do. For this reason, we recommend only adding users whom you trust to your site.

  I believe the multi user information you found pertains to a self hosted WordPress site. If you share the link here I can verify that for you.

  There are 2 versions of WordPress. What happens here at WordPress.com is a bit different from the self hosted version. This guide outlines those differences:

  Self hosted sites are more hands on for the owner, you will be the only one responsible for site upgrades and fixes. I suggest reading over the Getting Started materials on the left hand side of https://wordpress.org/support/ if you are interested in going this route.
