New Comment Gets: discarded
-
On a blank white screen, the word ‘discarded’ shows up at the top left corner.
This is happening very often, and on many blogs hosted on WordPress.com
Any ideas?

@brucewagner,
This happens when all of the following are true:- Your comment is flagged as spam.
- The post was published more than 30 days ago.
- The blog owner has the option “Don’t discard spam on old posts” unchecked at Settings->Discussion
If you feel your comments are incorrectly being flagged as spam, submit a request over at Akismet.

Mr Wagner, you have my sympathy!
I was directed here after I enquired of a site owner by email, whether perhaps he had chosen to block my comments. However, I have been “discarded” very frequently of late on WordPress sites.
If after reading an article and being moved/instructed/enraged/amused enough to frame my thoughts into a coherent response, I then accept the invitation to comment, submit the comment, only to come back with the “discarded” sign, it is very discouraging!
Perhaps, Mr Mtdewvirus, it would be possible for WordPress to configure the settings so that people have to opt in to trashing comments, as opposed to opt out of the “30 days”?
It was only that I particularly like the site I was on that I bothered to contact the site owner on this occasion, but I wonder if others are aware how often legitimate comments are being “discarded”?
I’d also be grateful if a consideration could be made to change the comment box invitation once comments are closed. Could it somehow be changed above the comment box from, “Leave a comment”, to “Comments closed”, so as not to waste unsuspecting people’s time writing them?
