New Comments Set up Is Messed up

    The new comments page is really messed up. The posts that are pending are not highlighted. If they are long the cut off the screen and you can’t read them all or Approve or Reply. When you try to reply now there is no editor box to include smilies, bold, hyperlink etc.

    Does WP know the new setup is not very good especially when dealing with long comments? I have many comments from medical/scientists and our comments are long, detailed and full of references. The new setup doesn’t work

    Which new comments page? I’m puzzled because don’t know what you are referring to and that’s not what I see on my blogs.

    These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
    clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
    using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
    updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
    confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
    confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
    confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
    resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
    then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
    trying another browser

    If those do not work for you then we need you to post a screenshot in your Media Library where Staff can view it and we need to know:

    (1) how you are connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com. The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. Also note that the main dashboard isn’t designed to work with touch devices through the tablet and smartphone browsers.

    Thanks, I checked and refreshed everything and I still have the issue. I did some screen shots and uploaded to my media library.

    1. QuickViewComments1.jpg is what I see when I click on the comments box that shows me there are new comments to approve

    2. FullViewComments.jpg is what I see when I click on View All and it shows me all the comments. No color coding to show new, just the words ‘pending’ if it’s new.

    The next 3 photos are screen shots of 1 comment that is very long. When I click on it to show me the whole thing it gets cut off.

    So Comment1 is the first part of the comment, Comment2 is the second part and then Comment3 is as far as I can read it. It cuts off and I can’t even click on it to open it otherwise. I also can not approve or reply to this comment, the box to do so does not show up.

    I’ll also upload another photo, Just remembered, about replying. When I reply it’ s just a standard text box. No html editor or anything. I’ll do that right away and name it replybox.jpb.

    I am using Mac version 10.6.8 and using Chrome 20.0.1132.43

    As I’m digging around I figured something out. Ok, so the replybox.jpg I just sent is how a comment looks when it’s a short comment and I’m able to click on reply.

    When I view my blog and am logged in, as the first photo shows, I have a notification box that goes orange and tells me if there are new comments. When I click on that I have all these problems.

    But – when I go into my dashboard and click on the comments section there, everything is normal as it was before.

    So really, this whole issue seems to be when I click on that new notification box and how it displays comments.

    Thx, glad I found a workaround though and can reply to the comments the normal was via dashboard. Cheers!

  • Thanks for letting us know! For now, you can still reply to comments on the blog itself, or via your Dashboard.
