New Custom Fonts Feature, not working

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been trying to use the new Custom Fonts feature, since I was notified of the upgrade to Custom Design.

I’m wanting to use Raleway for headings and Proxima Nova for body.

But each time I try to change either one, I get: There was a problem with the data submitted to the font service. ( 400: Invalid ‘name’ parameter ) Please try again or contact support.

I’ve searched the forum and seen a couple other similar problems, with no solution yet. So I wanted to also let you know I’m experiencing same issue.

    Thanks

I tested your custom fonts page and I was able to make the change. Can you try clearing your browser cache and check to see if you can make font updates after that?

If you’re still having trouble after clearing browser cache, can you please tell me your browser and browser version so I can try testing that too?

I like what you’ve done with the design at http://colbymartinonline.com/ Nice colors, and I like the contrast in the header image between the sans-serif and the more hand written styled looking fonts.

I spoke too soon. :) I was able to trigger the error. Looking into the details.

    Thanks designsimply,

    I tried again. Same thing.
    Emptied Cache. Same result.
Tried using Chrome (12.0.742.100) instead of what I was using (Safari 5.0.5.). Same result.

Still is giving me the error:

(okay, well, nevermind! I just switched over to copy the error message again. Loaded my page, went to change the fonts so that I could get the exact error message, and what do you know, NOW IT WORKS!)

    Ha!

Well, all’s well that ends well.
Wonder if I got “lucky,” or if something is now “fixed”

    Thanks again

    Colby

and thanks for the kind words about my design. Just re-did it on Monday, really pleased with how it turned out.

Oh, and now I just saw your second post, where it DIDN’T work for you as well…

    Strange…

So, it seems to come and go. Or, at least I saw the error once and then I couldn’t get it to appear after that. If anyone else can make the error appear, let me know the steps you’re taking and I’ll try testing it again.

Hi – I was wondering if either of you is still experiencing the issues. I just started a WordPress blog and purchased the Custom Design feature to utilize the custom fonts. However, the custom fonts don’t always show up.

For example, they were showing up last night while using Chrome at home. Today, at work, they aren’t showing up on Internet Explorer 8. They have never shown up on my iPhone (Safari), either on the mobile site or full site.

Do you think this could be a related issue?

    Thanks!

    Hey Abarto,

Thankfully, for me anyways, the custom fonts eventually just started working. There never seemed to be an explanation as to why they DIDN’T work, then they DID (momentarily for designsimply), then they DIDN’T again, and lastly they DID… and now they have been since last month. My only piece of advice is this: stick with it. It took me about a week from the time I activated the custom fonts to when they started working consistently. Sorry!

    colbymartin,

Thanks for the response! They’re still not showing up and I’m not patient. I would like the confidence to know that the fonts *will* show up at some point, so I’ve contacted the WordPress staff. We shall see!

    Thanks again,
    abarto
