Hey there, welcome to the community!
WordPress is free software that you can host just about anywhere, and WordPress.com (that’s us) is a managed hosting service. The other plan you’re interested in may be just regular hosting (where you’re usually on your own with your WordPress installation) or it may include more feature, so you’ll want to check with them to be sure. Here’s the difference between running your own copy of WordPress vs letting us take care of your installation for you.
All of our hosting plans are managed, even the free plan; we just have limits on it. And here’s what we offer:- Fast, reliable SSL hosting
- Security
- Maintenance
- Spam Filtering
- Direct WordPress support with all paid plans
- Jetpack features (so lots of built-ins, social publishing, premium features depending on your plan, etc.)
- Jetpack backup with our Business and eCommerce plans: basically we take very frequent backups so you can easily rewind any change if needed.
We can help you choose the best plan for your site if you’d like to share a link or let us know what features it needs. And, we can help you connect your domain so it will work here, or you can transfer the registration if you’d like.
Oh, and I also want to point out we have an importer for Square Space sites:
https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-squarespace/
They usually won’t get the look and feel imported, but that will typically get your content for you and you can adjust the site’s style as you’d like.Let us know what questions you have; we’ll be glad to assist!
