New Dashboard, View Site Button, vanished !
-
The earlier dashboard had a very convenient button on top – View Site. I don’t seem to find it in the new Dashboard. Any ideas where it may be located ?

Please learn to search the forum before starting a thread.

It’s my understanding that they put a semblance of the old button at the top of the dashboard. It says “your blog’s name” with “visit site” right beside it. That’s how it appears on my dashboard.
-
panag – how would a reader know that “guide to new dashboard” would have anything to do with the “visit site’ button?
-
-
When one puts in “View Site Button” which is what this thread is about, and searches forums, they get this:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=view+site+button
I would’ve opened a thread too, if I hadn’t been privy to the thread about “A Guide to the New Dashboard.” Just doesn’t feel very welcoming (your response) IMHO

I did search the Forum first, “View Site” with no relevant results ! Anyways the problem is resolved. Thanks and sorry if it caused offense.

Here’s a helpful tutorial about linking your user name
How to link your name to your blog -
@diamondfistwerny: this question (as well as a few others) was asked and answered repeatedly, and WP 2.7 is just two days old. Searching the forum includes browsing through recent threads.
-
Panag – the thread was no longer recent, if ya had looked it was no longer on the front page. How much searching are we expecting out of people while they’re still trying to learn a new interface; let alone trying to figure out how to get to the forums? Regardless of all of that, YOUR RATIONALE doesn’t justify coming across rude to someone seeking help, IMHO.
-
@diamondfistwerny: I said the question was “asked and answered repeatedly”. That doesn’t mean my thread: it means several threads. (I simply gave the link to mine because it hopefully includes answers to other questions as well.)
And searching the forum is not “my rationale”, it’s the rationale of the forum. Up top it says “Need help? Check out our Support site, then Search the Forums”. As I said in another thread a few days ago, we are not answering machines obliged to answer the same question a thousand times when it is already available.
-
Panag, if ya read the gentleman’s response, he did search the forum. And there was no relevant information pertaining to his question (on the front page) at the time he asked. Anyhow, clearly ya gotta have the last word. I’ve let ya go last night, dude. Why don’t ya do the same?
-
@diamondfistwerny: I beg your pardon? “Clearly”, a discussion has to end when YOU think it should.
-
Hey Teck, it looks like zoroastriansnet came back and took your advice :) As his blog is now linked. I hope he took care of all of that before he read the comments (on the thread) after HIS ISSUE was actually resolved :)
-
In fact, as I am sure someone has no doubt already said, the small “Visit Site” link which is now there, was NOT there when the new version went live. One can only infer that WordPress forgot to put a button in, and added this link later, after they realized. The link does not look as good as the old button.
Why is it that people are so reluctant to own up when they make a mistake? It isn’t as though it was a really important thing, and everyone would feel much happier.
The originator of this thread was criticised for starting it, on the grounds that it was already being discussed elsewhere. But sometimes people do not have the time to search through archives of questions, and prefer to just ask a quick question and get a quick answer. Why is it wrong to do this?

@ mtde, what about future, new WordPress users – who will not know that it was initially there?
-
I just ask cuz clearly some forum helpers/volunteers are continually getting frustrated answering the same question (and these don’t appear to be new to WP). Seems like it would be an on-going issue if WordPress continues to get new subscribers every month.

It is fairly conventional for the name of a blog or website to link to the home page. It’s a handy tip to keep in mind when you surf anywhere around the web. (no, not all sites work that way, but many do)
