how can I log in on a new device?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

You succesfully logged in to your wordpress.com account thehawkeyeonlinenews. Or where are you trying to log in to?

I am struggling to recover my WordPress account by providing proof of ownership. I am able to access my account on my desktop, but not on my new tablet. I have provided a transaction ID (I hope) and an accompanying note. That was last week.

  • Hi there,

What is the username or email connected to the account you are trying to access? I can check our system and see if I can find the email.

    Thanks!

could be one of the following:

(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff)

The last email address is the one to which an upgrade refund notification was sent in May 2021.

    Thanks.

  • Hi there,

Just to be sure I understand, you are trying to log in to thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com so you can access it as an admin? You are able to access that site on your laptop, is that where you posted this forums post from as well?

I am able to access my account on my desktop, but not on my new tablet.

The password is the same for both accounts, but if you don’t recall it (so you can use it on your tablet) you can reset your password here: https://wordpress.com/me/security/password

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    staff-totoro:

A correction (and please pardon any confusion I may spread):

I am the admin on the WordPress site in question, and have been for mush of a decade or so. However, I appear to have attempted changes to my logon and to my password that don’t match my records. Thus, I can post to the admin site on my desktop computer because I dare not log off, or else I will be locked out, as I am locked out of my new device (a tablet).

So, I think I need a new logon and a new password. I have attempted this in recent weeks, without success — indeed, with additional confusion.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi again,

I dare not log off, or else I will be locked out, as I am locked out of my new device (a tablet)…. So, I think I need a new logon and a new password. I have attempted this in recent weeks, without success — indeed, with additional confusion.

There is not a way for us on this end to provide a new login and password, but I can confirm that your @thehawkeyeonlinenews account is functioning correctly so there is not an issue that I can see to address there. But to sign in on other devices you must know the password to go along with it, which sounds like is the issue at hand.

If you do not recall the password to your account, you can reset it here: https://wordpress.com/me/security/password

As long as you have access to the email address that your account is listed under (you can check that here) you can email us to regain access to the site, so you cannot be locked out. :)

Sorry, but when I try to log into WorPress from my new tablet, the WordPress site says I have no WordPress sites yet. I’m confused. You say I have one. But the site says otherwise. Meanwhile, I have triend to change email address, password, etc., to try to get access to my account.

Since you’re already logged into the correct account, at least on your desktop computer, this shouldn’t be too difficult to sort out.

Four days ago, you changed the email address on file for your user account from (email visible only to moderators and staff) to (email visible only to moderators and staff). Since this change requires you to confirm that change, it looks like you confirmed that change on the same day.

The “no WordPress sites” message indicates that you’re logging into a different WordPress.com account on your tablet that has no sites set up yet and would indicate that you’re not using the correct login to access your site. Can you share which email address you’re trying to login with on your tablet? That might shine some light on the issue.

Otherwise, try to login using the new email address or your username “thehawkeyeonlinenews” and your password and that should help.

Let us know if you have any questions.

The email address I am using to try to log in on my tablet is (email visible only to moderators and staff) — the email address I recently (Oct. 22) changed.

The login site would not accept my password — one of several I have attempted, as I recall.

What if I gave you all the email addresses and passwords I have attempted? Would that move us off the dime? Or what if we spoke by phone? Or by chat?

    Thanks,

    d.

This just in: I now have an email address and password that works. But I still cannot get access to my WordPress site [https://thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com/] to administer it [https://thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php] on my tablet.

And I’m afraid of logging out on my desktop computer accidentally or purposely for fear of more of what we have been going through here.

A footnote: My Gravatar profile contains an erroneous contact email. I can change some profile info, but not the erroneous email address.

  • Hi there,

The email address I am using to try to log in on my tablet is (email visible only to moderators and staff) — the email address I recently (Oct. 22) changed.

To clarify, that is not the email address that your @thehawkeyeonlinenews account uses. Instead that is the email address we have on file for a different user account: @doloomis

That account does not have access to thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com which is why you cannot access your site while logged in under that account.

The login site would not accept my password — one of several I have attempted, as I recall.

Correct, to access the site thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com from your laptop, you must log in as @thehawkeyeonlinenews

To do that, on you iPad, go to https://wordpress.com/log-in/ then enter your @thehawkeyeonlinenews username (or the email address) and the password for this account and then on your tablet you will be able to access thehawkeyeonlinenews.wordpress.com as well.

Thanks. That allowed me to sign into WordPress. But it did not allow me to access my admin page for the site. Instead, it welcomes me to “Reader,” which encourages me to “find sites to follow.” I want one site to administer from my tablet, as I do from my desktop and as I did with my old tablet.

    This just in:

In spite of my recent changes to my email address and my password, a 2018 email address and 2018 password now are allowing access to my site. (They didn’t work in earlier attempts.)

I hope this solves the problem. But I plan to keep this chat window open just in case.

    Thanks.
