New domain
-
Hello, I would like to upgrade my URL link from wordpress.com to .com and I have some doubts. First thing, I don’t understand if i have to first buy a personal plan to change my domain and then change domain cause if i directly go to domains it only shows me the premium plan. And yes i only want the personal plan at the moment. Second thing, i can only add a new domain and make that one primary and thus I have to keep the old wordpress.com one or i can delete the wordpress.com one and have only one domain? And lastly with a personal plan i can fully customize the name of my new domain? And i basically want to change my URL link.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, in order to map your chosen domain to your WordPress.COM site, you will need to upgrade your plan, see this page for details:
This is not available for users of the free plan however.
You cannot delete your WordPress.COM address unless you migrate your site away from WordPress.COM and/or delete your site completely afyer which that site name will no longer be available on WordPress.COM.
For more info on the different hosting options for WordPress users see this page: difference between .COM & .ORG hosted WordPress sites .

I’ve watched that details page for ages and still did not understand a thing. And you did not respond to all my questions. I need more detailed answers.

Hi, OK let me go through your questions in more detail
I don’t understand if i have to first buy a personal plan to change my domain and then change domain
In order to use your own preferred choice of domain name, you need to be subscribed to either the Personal, Premium or Business Plan as detailed here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cause if i directly go to domains it only shows me the premium plan.
If you already subscribed to the Personal Plan then you should be able to add a custom domain without any additional plan upgrade:
Got to:
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage
Select the site you want to add a domain to from the list
Then click the Add button.
From that page you have three options:
- Search for a domain that WordPress.COM can offer you
- Select one of the suggested domains listed
- Already own a domain?
You can buy a domain name from wherever you want, not just WordPress.COM offered ones, and add it via the last option: “Already own a domain?”
Second thing, i can only add a new domain and make that one primary and thus I have to keep the old wordpress.com one or i can delete the wordpress.com one and have only one domain?
Once you have secured the domain of your choice, you can make it the primary domain:
From the list of domains now associated with your site:https://wordpress.com/domains/manage
Click on the domain you wish to make the primary and click the Make Primary button and that’s it.
You cannot delete your doseofstyleandfashion.wordpress.com address is that is where your site “lives” but you will no longer need to use this address to access your site.
And lastly with a personal plan i can fully customize the name of my new domain? And i basically want to change my URL link.
What domain name you choose is entirely up to you, it can be whatever you want it to be, so all pages of your site will now be of the format:
https://myfabsite.com/home
https://myfabsite.com/page1
https://myfabsite.com/someotherpageNote with WordPress.COM hosted sites, the www is dropped from the domain name, you can still use the www when linking to your site, but it will always redirect to the URL without the www in it so:
https://www.myfabsite.com/ will resolve to: https://myfabsite.com/
Remember also that with any of the paid plans you get personal support via email and live chat, just go to this page while signed into your WordPress.COM account:
https://wordpress.com/help/contact
Hope this answers your questions more fully, if you need any more help, please let us know.

(should have checked the example URL I used before posting above wasn’t already in use, mod please feel free to edit/remove – thanks!)

Now that was a 10 mark answer. Thank you for your time and now I fully understand what I have to do. No problem for that URL since I am not going to use that one and great example though.
