new domain name – mylordkatie.life

I don’t want to use this new domain if I lose my posts from my old site (email visible only to moderators and staff)
-
It seems that domain hasn’t been registered yet, https://www.whois.com/whois/mylordkatie.life

thank you. That’s good because until they tell me whether or not I lose all my post from the previous site, I can’t use it.

If mylordkatie.life is a paid upgrade for a wordpress.com website, you won’t lose your posts.

Ok. I still don’t understand how the switch gets made. What happens to the old name? How will my followers find me?

Hi there,
Think of a domain as a dust-jacket for a book. Putting it on the book doesn’t change the content on the pages of the book, nor does it change the actual, original cover of the book. It just causes the book to look a bit different from the outside.
In the same way adding a custom domain doesn’t change the content of your site, nor does it completely do away with the free WordPress.com address, it just changes the domain people see in their browser address bar when visiting your site. But your followers will still be subscribed to your site, and existing links you’ve shared with your WordPress.com address will still take people to your site.
The only thing that will change besides the URL appearing in the browser address bar, is that you will see a temporary drop in traffic from search engines. This happens because they’ll need to re-index your site at the new address, but after a few weeks that should also return to normal.
