New Domain Name not working

  Hi, I registered a new domain name through my wordpress dashboard today and it doesn’t seem to be working. I did this process with another blog on the weekend and it was readily immediately but this time not. My wordpress blog is http://www.changingwomen.wordpress.com and I have just paid for the new name http://www.changingwomen.org through the wordpress register domain process. Everything looks ok in the dashboard and I have made it the primary domain, what have I forgotten? Or does it take a little while and I was just lucky before?

  Patience Grasshopper – it can take 24 to 72 hours for all the changes to migrate across the internet.

  You we lucky the first time.

  thanks so much! Whew! I thought I had done something badly wrong. It is always nerve racking when registering a new domain, especially for people like me who are such bad spellers.

  All good now – its working! Thanks for getting to me so quickly wordpress!

  I’m having the same problem, but I can’t keep my blog off for 72 hours… should I keep my wordpress.com domain as primary and wait a couple of days before I try that?

  No, that doesn’t make any difference. It’s always best to make big changes during low traffic periods, so wait till the weekend. Sundays are particularly quiet.

  But, raincoaster, my primary domain is set to http://casadaidea.wordpress.com, but if you type my new domain http://casadaidea.com.br, it isn’t being redirected to the wordpress. Shouldn’t that be working?
  And at the register of the new domain everything seems ok…

  It works fine. It is working exactly as expected. Yes, it is being redirected to WP.com. WAIT.

  No, they will continue to recieve your blog because whatever.wordpress.com stays active. You have TWO URLs now, and both work, so people can subscribe to either feed.
