new domain transfer not working correctly

  • Unknown's avatar

I set up a domain transfer 3 days ago. My existing domain ‘www.trurocycling.org’ does not redirect to my wordpress blog; but ‘trurocycling.org’ (without the ‘www’) does redirect correctly. I definitely used the full URL ‘www.trurocycling.org’ when I set up the redirect. The ‘www’ prefix is used on all our publicity.
    Can this be corrected?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

We redirect all www subdomains to their root domain. Your domain, http://www.trurocycling.org, will always be redirected to trurocycling.org, so you can feel free to use either version on your publicity and elsewhere, as both will lead to your site. It’s just that the www won’t show in the browser address bar.

Redirecting the first version of your URL to the second version helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly.

OK, today (but not yesterday) the full URL (including the ‘www’) is redirecting; so it took 3 days to work correctly. But more worryingly, I also transferred the email account ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’ to a new Zoho account and redirected that according to your instructions; I tested it and it worked fine; however now it is not working – emails sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff) are either being returned or disappearing completely.

  • Hi there – You’ll need to set up your Zoho account on our end, now that your name servers have been changed. There are currently no DNS records for Zoho in your Custom DNS. Please follow these instructions for how to do this:

Let me know if you have any trouble!

Ok, thanks , I have done this (again!) and all now working. But I set up the DNS records before, and to test it I sent an email from another account on 06 September, which worked fine. Something appears to have changed things soon after. Let’s hope it sticks now.

  • Hi there – the DNS looks correct on our end, at any rate, so hopefully this will continue to work for you now. If you have any further trouble, let us know!
