New domain with old expired domain?

Hey there,
Hope you’re well today.
I didn’t have the money when it was time to renew my domain so I lost it. I didn’t know about the additional $80 fee and didn’t have the entire $98 needed to get my domain back. I thought I could just purchase a NEW domain for the minimum cost but with the new domain it still won’t let me access my account. I waited past the 72-hour period (during which time WordPress advises to wait because it can take time for all parties to update the new domain settings.) Still won’t let me access my site despite spending the money and setting the new domain.
I made sure to set my NEW domain as my “primary.” Maybe I’m missing something, or, maybe the system is glitching because it still wants me to pay for the old domain which I’m not going to renew for $98. OR, maybe that’s the wordpress policy to make people purchase or renew the old domain (though that doesn’t seem likely to me).

Just so I’m clear, haydenjamesphotographer.com is the expired one that you want to remove and haydenjamesphotography.com is the one you want to use?
