New edit format for my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog at https://jansandhere.wordpress.com/ has been active for about four years and has been very simple and direct to use. It contains my poetry and a few essays and I have been posting to it very regularly. Yesterday, when I posted and attempted to edit my post I encountered a change in the editing format that was difficult in the extreme to work with and made it impossible to modify the graphic accompanying my poem and did not permit me to apply my stanza breaks. The previous edit format was very simple and quick to respond to my instructions. The current revision of the edit procedure discourages me entirely from future posting and renders my control of my posts impossible and makes my blog useless to me, If the previous edit system cannot be restored I cannot see much point in posting.

  • The classic editor is being discontinued.

We have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions

And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic editor block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/

We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

If you have feedback that could help make the new block editor a better experience for you, please let us know here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/feedback-thread-for-the-block-editor/

Perhaps incredibly stupid but, for example, simply using the previous editor system, to change the size of the graphic for my post, in editor mode I merely had to select the graphic and place the mouse cursor at a corner to reduce the size of the graphic. To copy my post for personal file I merely had to select all and copy to place it into my hard drive, None of those options are obviously offered under the block system and the options under the new system may be there but I can detect no simple quick and obvious way to use them. I find your instructions in the editor mode pretty much unclear and mysterious,

  • Hi Jan,

to change the size of the graphic for my post, in editor mode I merely had to select the graphic and place the mouse cursor at a corner to reduce the size of the graphic.

You can still do the same adding the graphic into Image Block, have a look:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/

To copy my post for personal file I merely had to select all and copy to place it into my hard drive

This also can be done by clicking on the three dots in the upper right corner and choosing the option to Copy All Content.

Have a look at the video on this page, it gives you an overview of how the ned editor works:

If you’re still not convinced, as staff-blorbo mentioned, you can try the Classic Block which will give you the exact same features as the Classic Editor:

I appreciate your interest in my difficulties and the advice you have offered to permit me to regain my control of my posts but repeated attempts to perform the totally previously simple tasks of editing my graphics and my texts if my posts have resulted in total failure since the exceedingly perverse and complex control system of the block format requiring down and uploading to and from mysterious destinations have frustrated me totally in the previously simple and obvious operations. I am now in serious search of a new site for my blog where the normal formats of simple editing present no complex difficulties. Thanks for tolerating my ineptitude but I seem improperly oriented to function within your innovations.

I have repeatedly attempted to install the classic mode with no success. the path directions for this procedure with jumping circles is far too rapid for me to follow and activate. my reaction time at the age of almost 95 is somewhat slower than average and far too inadequate to make any sense of the directions. As a technical soldier in WWII in the US Army air force I got my original technological orientation which admittedly is somewhat primitive in the current digital ecology but I managed reasonably up to this point. This new block systen is far to excessively perverse for me to accept as reasonably useful.

  • You will not be able to switch back to the classic editor at this time.

But if you select the classic block inside the editor, as we’ve suggested above, any content you add inside that block will work exactly the same as the classic editor that you’re used to:

Thanks for your humorous Latin article but I am limited to English. I have attempted to discover the control of Post Title and it seems not to appear on my blog so I cannot revert to the classical version of the editor, Thanks for trying.
