New edit post screen

  • Unknown's avatar

For the past two days I am unable to edit posts from the new and enhanced screen. I receive an error message that I am unauthorized to do so. This morning I thought to try adding my Categories and Tags on the older traditional edit post screen and I was able to accomplish my tasks. It seems like you may have done work on the newer screen as the columns that includes Categories and Tags has moved to the left of the screen. I believe this is a programmatic problem, but please advise if there is something I might be doing wrong. I am a daily user, so I don’t believe it is me!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Ed,

Yes we did recently make a change moving the Tags and Categories to the left hand side of the display. I just tried to test this out and I was able to add/remove tags just now. Can you try again and let me know if you are still having this issue?

I was able to add a Tag and save it correctly. Thank you Grace!

    You’re very welcome!

    Cheers!

Sorry Grace, but I’m receiving the same error again today. Here’s what I am doing: I post my daily devotional article to my WP Blog, then I go into WP and edit the Blog so I could add the Tags and location. This has always worked extremely smooth for me, but now I am receiving an error that reads: “Oops! An error occurred while saving the post. User cannot edit post”. This is really frustrating! I will try a different browser to see if that helps, as I am using Firefox as my primary browser.

OK, pls cancel my request Grace. It seems like my issue is Browser specific. I was able to complete my edit in IE. I will browse through Firefox and determine what might be the cause.

  • Glad you were able to sort it out.

Any ideas on what I might check in Firefox to see what might be preventing me from updating posts? In the Firefox browser I am given the warning quoted in my earlier post, in IE the update is accepted. There’s not a pop-up, but I went ahead and placed WordPress in my exceptions. It seems like when updating posts, my credentials are not being properly passed to WordPress. I don’t know what else to check, but hate that I have to switch to an alternate browser to post my updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Are you using the most recent update to Firefox?

Yes I am. I have automatic updates turned on.

  • Can you take a look at this page and let me know if it confirms that third party cookies are enabled:

I have cookies set as described. I even deleted cookies for WordPress and logged back in to only find the same issue. I guess I will just have to put up with the inconvenience of opening my alternate browser, IE

  • It’s just a strange situation because it is not something I am seeing reports of elsewhere nor am I experiencing with my own Firefox use. This points to there being some setting on your machine that is causing the issue. But I cannot figure out what that would be.

Just FYI: I posed the question to the forum and received a word back from “Raincoaster” to use the classic editor instead of the new and improved editor, and this worked!!! Just wanted to let you know as this might trigger what type of programming in the new interface that Firefox is preventing.
