NEW EDITOR

    Hi,

On most of my sites, I have certain pages included near the top.

Typically, what I’ve done in the past is go to an older site and just copy the content from the edit page, including any pictures, for pasting into the new site. It has always worked nicely. And the ability is needed since some of my pages are long and include words and photos.

    This does not work now.

I’ve just created the beginnings of a new site, and when I copied and pasted (from an older site to the new one), I got the text but no pictures. I also got a lot of technical symbols (hypertext?) like the ones for italics.

I tried reading the WordPress article on switching between editors, but it is no help and it appears to me that what it says is no longer true – that is, that there is a link in the upper right allowing switching back and forth between editors. I sure don’t find it.

Indeed, I like the old site editor in general, but once having been switched over, it appears I am stuck with what I like much less. This includes the ability to adjust the size of a photo.

What I am getting is this: https://chuckmanbitsandpieces.wordpress.com/the-sad-end-of-a-marriage-by-john-chuckman/
on my new site after trying to copy the page content from an existing site where the page works fine.

    Any help appreciated.

    John Chuckman

You can reach the wp-admin dashboard for that site via https://chuckmanbitsandpieces.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
    Bookmark that in your browser.
Did you copy html into the visual editor? If you must copy/paste make sure that if you’re copying html it’s pasted back into the html editor. It’s best to upload an image directly into the post/media library of your site rather than copying over a link and hotlinking it from another site.

Thanks for responding , but I am sorry, I just do not understand your answer. I’m not technical.

As I tried to indicate, what I have always done is just go to the desired existing page on one of my existing sites.

I then hit “edit” and simply copied. That brought the total page – pictures and all – to my new site for pasting.

Now, when you try that, you get what I showed in the link – no pictures and technical marks.

I still don’t see how one switches back and forth between editors, as the WordPress article says you can with something in the upper right. There’s nothing there.

Anyway, I am not interested in technical terms since I just don’t understand most of them.

I just want to be able to do what I was trying to do, and to be able to repeat the action in future. And not just for the one site. I need a generalized approach.

When WordPress suddenly makes these technical changes, as in the editors, it seems to take no account of old folks like me. Must be tens of thousands like me.

After a good deal of playing around, I finally solved the problem.

    Thanks
