New editor

I see I am obligated to speak to ‘the community,’ but it’s not ‘the community’ I’m interested in addressing. It’s the people who work at WordPress with way too much time on their hands and who feel they must justify their salaries. About this new editor I’ve been forced to use when the previous one worked fine. This new one is so freaking complicated I’ll be enrolling in a Ph.D program for programming next week at Harvard and, with luck, in a few years I’ll be able to use the new editor. Thanks a bunch.

Hi @patzmich – I see that this thread has been flagged for Staff attention on your feedback.
Let me just add, if you previously used the Classic Editor in your MySites>Sites>Posts > Add new post, and you find the Classic Block https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/ difficult to work with, have you tried using the Classic Editor in your site’s WP Admin (yoursite.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php )?

Here’s a comparison screenshot of the 3 different “Classic” toolbars. You can see they share similar tools. (temp screenshot)

Thanks, Jennifer. Ideally, they would have made the incredibly complicated new one, and by its side, a calmer version for the rest of us.

After fighting with the new editor for hours, I’ve become a bit more comfortable with it, and see some good aspects. However, most I will never use, and I suspect most others will never use them either. It’s best for pros.
But … nevermind.

Hello again, If by “new editor” you mean the block editor, I’m glad to hear that you’ve tried it.
However, most I will never use, and I suspect most others will never use them either. It’s best for pros.
You can limit the number of blocks that appear for you in the Block Manager to just the blocks you need and use. (screenshot)
When in your post or page, click on the Ellipsis at the top right corner of the Block Editor and then click on “Block Manager” under TOOLS (see screenshot 01)
In the next pop-up window that opens, you can uncheck all the blocks that are not relevant for you either by unchecking individual blocks or entire sections by unchecking the box next to the section heading (see screenshot 02)
Unchecking that box doesn’t delete the block; it only removes it from view and you can always re-enable the block later if you decide to use it by checking the box again.
Let me know if you have any other question about this.

Hello again, I overlooked adding this tutorial link for you in case you hadn’t seen it: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
Again, let me know if you have any other question about this.

This is great! I didn’t know this feature.

Okay, now that the initial shock has worn off, and I’ve spent hours (!) trying (mostly successfully) to understand the new editor, it doesn’t seem so bad. On the contrary, it looks downright good. Kudos to the team. And Ms. Jennifer.
