New editor is a blank screen

The new editor won’t let me edit scheduled posts or create new ones. All I get is white screen with nothing on it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

It’s possible to schedule posts in the new editor.

    Try these steps

    1. Open your post with the new editor
    2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner
    3. Under Status click on the Publish Immediately button and a calendar will appear
    4. Use the calendar to schedule your post for a future date

Write back if you are still struggling to schedule the post.

Hello, every time I go to write a new post or open a draft I keep getting a white screen. My blog is motherhoodmeandthemadness.com.

  • @louiseandevelyn

Can you please tell me what operating system (Mac or Windows) and browser you’re using, including the version numbers? You can find that info at http://supportdetails.com/ if you’re not sure.

Are you using the new block editor? And are you creating posts by going to My Site ->Blog Posts ->Add, or by going to WP-Admin?

Please check if clearing your browser cache, or using a different browser or internet connection makes any difference. Also please make sure your browser have JavaScript enabled:

staff-zinnia – please actually read what people say before replying. There is no gear icon. I have a blank screen. There is only a white background, and nothing else.

    @kokkieh

I use a linux OS based on debian. I use wordpress on Brave 0.22.727.
I get a white screen regardless of whether I try to make a new post by clicking on the write button on the top of the screen, or try to pull up an existing scheduled post.

  • @cristoforoserenissima – What’s the browser (and version) you’re using? We need that information to test it and report it to our developers. Thanks!

    I use Brave Ver. 0.22.727.

  • Thanks @cristoforoserenissima, sorry we missed that earlier. I have to admit I’m not terribly familiar with Brave. I know it allows you to block scripts; can you verify whether it’s blocking any here? Also, does it happen to have an error console, or anything on it that would show what errors you’re getting?

And, prior to this, were you using wp-admin to edit posts, or wordpress.com/post ? I ask because worpdress.com/post had a fair bit more JavaScript involved; wp-admin previously did not.

Also if you have another browser and wouldn’t mind checking to see whether the issue is limited to Brave, that would be helpful, too.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @supernovia,
Brave does not block scripts by default.
As for an error console, I do not know. I can get into the developer side of things by hitting F12 but I have no idea what I am looking at.
I believe I was using wp-admin prior to this. I was seeing “wp-admin/post.php?pos” after the site name in the html.
I just checked and it works fine on firefox and PureBrowser (which is a firefox derivative).
I have another computer that runs Chrome on Linux Mint (slightly different OS) and it works fine there too.
So, I guess its an issue with brave. Has anyone else mentioned it? Either way, good luck fixing things, I guess. I run a multipurpose laptop and Brave is my browser for personal stuff, such as blogging. I’ll likely just switch back to the classic editor for now. If you want me to test again to see if its working, let me know, just message me i’ll be happy to do so.

  • Thanks. I installed Brave here on my mac and it’s running alright unless I choose to block scripts. Then I get an otherwise blank screen with a W.

Are you seeing the W on a faint grey-blue as well or is the screen completely white?

Does the brave shield icon show any numbers / warnings, and if so can you get a screenshot of those?

And, could you possibly snag what you see in the Javascript Console (Brave on Mac had this; hopefully yours will too) on the broken screen and upload it to your media library?

Also, is the classic editor working for you in Brave right now?

    Classic editor is working fine.
Had some time to fiddle with it today(holidays started early) and I found the setting that was making it fail: third party cookies were blocked. Is that supposed to happen?
Blocking scripts took me to the main settings page where it told me java script was required (nifty).
Screenshots uploaded. I think i got the right one from the console. Let me know if I didn’t.

  • Ah, yes, third party cookies (at least from our servers) are needed. I believe your browser will let you specify which cookies to allow, though I’m not sure how to configure it so it will allow enough.

You might just allow them for your sites and WordPress.com itself.

And, to clarify, you mentioned the classic editor works — are you saying that’s worked all along and the new editor is now fixed, or that this fix took care of the classic editor for you?

  • Oh, and I did find the media files, thank you.

The classic editor worked all along. It’s just the new one that doesn’t seem to work with third party cookies blocked. I’ll allow them for this site.
    Anyway,thanks a bunch for everything.
