The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. Though Staff removed the link in the new editor to the classic editor but there are two workarounds that can be used found here:

@ipublica – Thanks for following up with me via email. I’ve reported to our developers that line breaks aren’t being retained in the Visual editor.
I do see what you mean with the PollDaddy code. I haven’t nailed down what’s causing that, but I’ll report it to our devs when I do. :)
2) Sometimes bottom of a long page is hidden, can’t be seen because sculling to the bottom still hides a section of the page. Again, a major bug!
I believe we fixed this one yesterday. Let me know if you see this again though!
This is misleading, to say the least, for they pretend to be accessible by direct email, but they are not!
You can always email us at help@wordpress.com. I believe you’re landing on our contact form, which is currently only available to users with upgrades. I’ll mention this to the team that’s working on those emails.
Let me know if I can help further!

Thank you very much indeed! I feel honored through your kind involvement here, and I am glad I could contribute a little to the discussion and help WordPress to make improvements! I will stick with WordPress.com for the rest of my publishing life, anyway, but it’s nice to see myself now part of a smart community who have a strong feel for good design, and for using a brilliant publishing software.
Thanks also for providing me your direct email. I did honestly not know that it’s possible to reach out to you guys and I will surely not abuse of this email contact and use it only in cases I really find no way out of a buggy behavior, which fortunately with your own hosting of WordPress is a rare case, while much more frequent when you use third-party hosting services.
Thanks again and best wishes,

Thanks for this gigantic effort! I appreciate the involvement of all of you and I am sure that WordPress will listen and that the end result will be positive. They don’t have any intention to do worse than they did in the past. After all, they made steady progress with the development of this great publishing software. And with such a strong community backup, the end result can only be perfect.

The end result is already known. End user feedback was ignored and the link to the classic editor will not reappear in the new editor – period – game over.

Thank you! Yes, I found this is the safe way to stay within the framework of the old editor. I always go Dashboard-WP Admin and then to either Posts or Pages and from here, Add New.
Editing existing posts and pages which would be much quicker to use is not reliable for I do not know for what reason, it opens either in the old or the new editor, more often in the new one, but there is no consistency. I have tested it all out, making sure that I have previously posted the post or page in the old editor—but it would still open in more than 50% of the cases, in the new editor.
Many solutions suggested here may work for you guys who have programming knowledge but for most like me, writers and content providers, they are way too difficult to carry through.
I hope that this incentive here, almost 600 people expressing themselves, will help to safeguard the old editor and prevent WordPress from taking any hurried action.
I have heard them voice the clear intention several times that the old editor will stay with us. That is comforting to know!

Ok I finally got some pictures of this. I edited an article from 2012. I can see that the old editor removed the whitespace too. Luckily I was able to take snaps of the original before I saved the update. I have two images, how do I upload them?

Ok here they are, I hope you can see them:
https://matter2energy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=1401
https://matter2energy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=1400
https://matter2energy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?item=1399You can see the original article in 1399 and what happened when I opened the editor in 1400.
You can see the problem by looking just above the “End of Story” section in 1400, which has several paragraphs. Now look at the same section in 1399, they have all been run together – the P tags have been stripped out.
I had the same problem when I started to edit another article, so I arranged the windows side by side to make it more clear. Look at the paragraphs on the right side of 1401, and how they are all missing on the left side.
This appears to happen no matter what editor I use (I *think*), but only seems to happen on older articles (I *think*). It may be possible its caused by some of the content itself, but it doesn’t seem so.

Thanks for those screenshots! Our developers are digging into this issue currently. I’ll update this thread when I hear from them. :)
-
Ok I think I saw the same thing on the iPhone app. So I’m thinking this is server-side and not based on the editor in particular. That may be a red herring, but worth mentioning.
-
That would be strange as our developers have narrowed down the cause of the issue to the editor specifically, they’re just working out how to fix it.
Please let me know if you see this happen in the iOS app again, as we’ll definitely want to report that to the apps team. :)
-
I not only saw it again, but saw it on an article I only started editing a couple of days ago. So it’s not even limited to old articles.
But at the same time, I should point out that this does not happen 100% of the time in any case. I have a strong feeling that this has something to do with the content of the article, perhaps the use of the MORE separator or something like that. I’m still poking about looking for any sort of pattern.
