New Editor Messed Up My Page
-
The pages on my blog display fine, but when I go into them to edit them I cannot do so because what I see instead of what I’m used to is a wall of HTML code. I’m lost as to what to do now.
I suppose as a temporary solution I could go back to the classic editor, but I don’t see how to do that.

Hi there,
On what site are you working, and can you give a link to the post with the problem?
Is this happening when you edit the post from My Site ->Site ->Posts?
-
Is it possible to post screen shots here? That might make it easier for me to show what’s happening.
-
I’m having the problem with this WordPress site: https://wordpress.com/home/philoonbooks.wordpress.com
I don’t see how to post them here, but I now have in my “Media” section screenshots of the page as it appears on the site to the public, the page as it appears in the Classic editor, and the page as it appears in the new editor.
-
Make sure that you have it set to the Visual Editor, not the Code Editor: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/#more-options

Would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to share a screenshot of what you’re referring to?

Because that block contains html code
<div style ..., it is set as Code Block, https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/code-block/. That’s why you see it as code and not visual. -
I didn’t create the block and at no time wrote any html code. Evidently the conversion from the old editing style to the new editing style generated that block.
What I don’t know is how to undo that and get it back to what I actually wrote (which is how it appears in the old editor).
The odd thing is I have a nearly identical WordPress site on a different topic set up the same way, and I don’t have this problem there. The system didn’t generate a block like this when it transitioned to the new editing style.

copy the content of that block to your simple texteditor, next remove all html-code – it’s always place between
<and>. Copy the text you want to keep into a new paragraph block, that’s all. -
That list has hundreds of entries; trying to pick out the html from each one individually would take God knows how long.
I think I found a way to fix it, though. I simply copied the entire page from the Classic editor, deleted everything that was on the page from the new editor and replaced it via paste with that content from the Classic editor, and hit “update.” That appears to have done the trick.
I just have to hope the new editor won’t again arbitrarily decide to convert 99% of the page to that enormous block of html.

Sort of. That link goes to the Classic editor. The problem was with the new editor version of that same page.
It’s gone now because a couple hours ago I deleted that huge block of html code entirely and copied and pasted the correct material there to replace it. That seems to have done the trick.
