New Editor published right away a post scheduled for Sep 02nd

The new editor, which not always pops up for me caused me quite a bit of trouble today. I decided to use it and schedule a post for Sept 02nd. I did it, and when I hit SCHEDULE, much to my surprise, the post was published.
this was really pretty bad for reasons that are irrelevant, but let’s say this was one post that had to go live exactly on Sept 2nd as I planned. I was frantically trying to decide how to “un-publish” it, and managed to revert it to draft status. This has never happened before with the “old editor”
any ideas what went wrong????? Can I prevent the new editor from popping up and stick with the old system?

Sorry, I did try to search for the topic, but nothing came up, or once more I am a lousy “searcher”
good to know I am not alone in this, and I am sure they will fix it. In the meantime, I am staying away, far far away from the beep beep boop thingie ;-)
