New Feature: Domains

    If I register my own domain elsewhere, and my hosting provider offers free domain-forwarding service… I can simply register bruce.com there, and have the domain “forwarded” (auto-redirected) by the hosting service…. to bruce.wordpress.com No?

    And if I checkmark “domain masking”, then the user will see that bruce.com remains on the browser’s Address line the entire time…

    Uh, sorry, poor english…oO”

    Bruce, you can but it’s not necessary. Just use wordpress.com’s two nameservers (ie ns1.wordpress.com and ns2.wordpress.com) and you can have your domain hosted here. Domain forwarding is not necessary in this case.

    Hello
    I had changed both DNS in my Domain configuration, but they always ask me for the IP numbers asociated to them. What can I do?

    Many thanks from Chile

    Guys, the best way to get support isn’t this thread, it’s by contacting support using the feedback tab in your dashboard.

    If you’re not talking to us via feedback we can’t help you or track down any problems.

    I would like to have anyone that types in http://www.warriorreport.com (a domain I own and control) to see what is on http://warriorreport.wordpress.com without leaving that page. How do I do this? I want to have the wordpress site be that same, only under a different URL.

  • Unknown's avatar

    CV, you currently have domain forwarding, not domain hosting. Please see Dashboard -> Upgrades -> Domains for information about the program. Please also not that I changes thte URL of your wp.com blog. The ‘www’ and the ‘warriosreport’ bits can not coexist within a URL. 30% of the net and most search engine spiders cannot/ will not follow such a link. (Why do people keep shooting themselves in the foot with…)

    alva ns1 – 72.232.101.25 ns2 – 69.90.211.204 Please note that it shouldn’t be asking for IP addresses and may show to be a problem with your registar.

    Nice new feature. I won’t be using it until we can have an MX record editing capacity. I currently have my email hosted at google so need that MX editing capacity, if I dump the current web host, byebye email too :(

    Looking forward to more updates

    @hamarana:

    I also didn’t want to lose my email addresses so I mapped to a subdomain. Don’t know if you are interested in that option or not but it’s something to keep in mind. :)

    Hello,

    I registered a domain with you but now I need to move it to another registry. How do I do this?

    Thanks!

    @suzie
    I believe this is a matter for staff to deal with so please send in a feedback.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Suzie, you move the nameservers to point at the new nameservers for your new site.

    But doesn’t search engines like Google penalize you for that type of redirect. Now I thought the only redirect they respect are 301 redirects. I’m I missing something?

    When I started my WordPress blog I signed up with one of the hosting services recommended by WordPress so that I could use my own domain name. Is there any reason (other than saving a few bucks a year) to move my blog back to WordPress at this point?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I currently have a wordpress.com blog, I have bought my own domain, and want to host my blog there using wordpress.org for the increased flexibility.

    I saw a post by Matt in a different thread (some time ago) about the possibility of redirects when the domain feature became available. I am wanting to clarify that there is still no way to just redirect posts if you do the hosting yourself? To do the redirect, I would have to host use the wordpress.com blog on my domain, correct?

    I am somewhat confused regarding the “Put blog here” link, found on the Control panel / Settings / Domains.
    First, it is unclear what the current domain setting is.
    Sedond, what does “put blog here” mean?

    Perhaps this could be resolved by a better wording and presentation? Unfortunately I cannot propose any right now, as I am confused :-)

    On a side note, I believe a link to the FAQ on Domains (i.e. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/) would be better on the domain setting page (instead of a link to this forum thread).
