New font takes a few seconds to load each time
-
Hi all,
My blog is doing something strange since I changed from default fonts to a new font in the customize settings. Now the page still loads with the default font and lags for 2-3 seconds, and then auto-refreshes with the new font, which looks really weird and makes the whole content jump upwards.
I don’t think it’s a cache issue as I tried to open my blog on for the first time on my tablet and laptop since making the changes and it’s doing the exact same thing — loading old font and then ‘jumping’ to the new one.
My impression is that the blog is loading the default font first, and then super-imposing my change afterwards, but it’s obviously not seamless to the viewer. Is there any way to suppress auto loading default font first and just loading the font I want to use on page load?
Thanks for your help,
Alex

Hi Alex, with custom web fonts, your browser has to download the font from the font web server, and if the servers are seeing heavy loads, or the internet is congested between you and the font servers, or you are on a slower internet connection, there can be a delay. We made the decision to allow the page to begin loading with the original fonts while the custom fonts are being downloaded since if the delay on the font download was too long, people may get impatient, or may click away from your site instead of waiting.
Our developers continue to work on this to minimize the delay.
