New format for posting blogs? Can't figure it out
-
Is anyone else having a horrible time using the new format to post blogs? I was typing away and wanted to add a photo, so I clicked the photo button and then it didn’t give me an option to add to the post, just publish. So I published and now the only thing in that post is a photo. What the hell? Anyone know how to post a pic in a blog now that they’ve changed it? Am so confused. Ughhhh
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The procedure has not changed dramatically and is covered in this support document.

@kristenlizlourie, you did not by chance set the post format for that post to “image” did you?
-
You are not the only one having trouble – the new format is more time consuming and frankly a pain in the ____ !! Why does it seem WP likes change for the sake of change ? I hate the new format and am really thinking of changing to another if this constant change keeps up just because…

@jobryantnz: What new format?
@kristenlizlourie: As TSP guessed, you have selected the image post format for your latest post. Edit the post and select Standard in the Format module.

Thank you for posting back to me all. The new format is not good. Everything was so easy, then they have to make everything counter-intuitive. I’ll give that module thing you speak of a try and pray that it works, otherwise I may have to take my blogging eslewhere cause I spent like an hour and a half trying to figure it out, and I’m not the biggest idiot in the world, so….it sucks. Also how about a basic blog mode and a fancy mode for people? That would be nice. Anyhoo I’ll let you know if I have success

Okay, here’s what happened. Went to new post under the grey bar at the top of the page then the old menu showed up and I clicked something like, add new post or something along those lines. The old version of the posts came up and looks the same as always. Then I was like, what! And went back and tried it again because before I check the forum I went to new post and it gave me the wacky new version. I thought I’d check because maybe there was an error with my browser or something that would fix itself overnight. I have a screen shot of the new blog post screen but the forum doesn’t let you add pics. Sigh, I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, all I know is that sometimes I get this wacky new version that sucks and other times I get the one I know how to use. Very cruel, WordPress

a) I don’t really know what you’re you’re complaining about.
b) To show us a screenshot, you upload it to your blog via Media > Add New, copy the File URL and paste it here.
c) To edit a published post, you go to Posts > All Posts in your dashboard sidebar and click the title of the post.
d) Your original complaint was that your latest post displays only the image. That’s because you selected the Image post format for that post, which you didn’t have to. Go to the post editor as explained in c above, select Standard, as I said in my previous reply, click Update.
e) You can then click Screen Options (top right while on the post editor screen), uncheck “Format” to disable the Format module and forget all about post formats.

Thanks Nick Burns. Actually I’m selecting “New Post” and there is not “Image post” to be seen, so I can’t unselect it. There’s a text option, so when you type in there and then go over to the photo section to add a photo to the text it doesn’t give you and option to insert, just to publish the photo. So it’s giving me only a choice to do either text or a photo.
To the other person that’s also having this problem it seems like it depends which menu you select “New post” from, so if you’re able to get to the grey bar with all the menu options it lets to select the good “New post”. If you select “New post” from the grey bar that only has the WordPress “W” and use that drop down it gives you the weird post format. Click on you name on the right hand side of the grey bar and it will bring up the old school version with that big menu on the side, then you should be okay.

My original reply, as well as c and d in my new one, had to do with how to correct your latest published post, not how to create a new post.
And as you found out, the “old school version” of creating a new post is still there. Also accessible via Posts > Add New in your dashboard.
