New Format will lose my post!

Will I be forced to convert to the new format? I HATE IT!
I keep being asked to convert to the new format and I tried. It SCARES ME! I am NOT on a blog to lose half of what I’ve written.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Do you mean the new editor for writing posts?
This does take some getting used to as it quite different. Now I’m used to it I can see its potential and usefulness. https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/
But you can have a classic editor block which will allow you to have the old style of writing. https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
Hopefully this helps!

Hi there, according to Staff reply, the Classic Editor will be around until at least 2022.
To switch back to the Classic Editor, click on the three dots at the top right in the Editor toolbar and then click on “switch to Classic Editor”

I’m not sure what you mean here. Both the new Block Editor and the Classic Editor autosave your draft posts while you are working on them. https://en.support.wordpress.com/autosave/

Hi JustJennifer : My issue with the block editor is that parts of my posts seemed to disappear when I clicked UPDATE . Maybe I wasn’t doing it properly but it totally intimidated me and I switched back to classic.
When it comes to blogging, the simpler the better. Blogger doesn’t get a lot of traffic, and I’ve discovered that I have to cut posts into parts, or it starts to bleed into my comments section.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Hi 404 Bill
I do hope so. I junked Blogger because I wasn’t getting any traffic, but I don’t want to lose half a post because I didn’t block my paragraph properly or some such thing. It intimidates the daylights out of me. Is there any danger of losing my work if I make some sort of mistake? Thanks for helping out.

Hi,
With WordPress.com it keeps older revisions of posts (up to 25). So every time you save a post it makes a copy, if needed in the future you can restore a previous post to a previous version: https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/page-post-revisions/
Granted the new editor does take some getting used too, good luck!

Hi ‘Bill’ That is a relief at least.
I know of one blogger who created a blog on WORD and then transplanted posts onto her online blog. I think I’m going to start doing something like that, to keep the creative ball in my court. While I’m deciding on that, it does help to know that posts don’t disappear into the great beyond. All the same, better safe than sorry.
Thanks again.

Hello again, if you run into this issue (although you have switched back to Classic), please don’t continue editing the post and let us know so that Staff can have a look at it. Thanks.

There is a new editing program on WordPress which, right now, is optional. Bloggers have the choice of using that program or staying with the classic version. I HATE the new version. So I’m on the look out for a blog site that will allow bloggers the freedom to write as they want without the newfangled technese getting in the way!

@jotsarabsingh017 that’s pretty unusual since most of your replies in these WordPressdotcom forums so far have been geared to users of the open source WordPress software, which is supported at https://wordpress.org/support If you are not aware of the current block Editor, you’ll want to read up on it first. You can learn about the differences between the WordPress software and our WordPressdotcom platform in these guides:
@creativengenceismine Not everyone likes or uses the new block editor, but it has some tricks that the regular editor cannot do. My favorites so far are adding text to images and creating tables in your posts/pages. If you are interested in giving it a try, you can open a free test blog at https://wordpress.com/start/ so you are not testing it on your current site(s). Cheers!

Hi J.J.
Sounds like I need to do a LOT of reading on that new block editor. My main issue is the fear of losing any part of my post. I’ve toyed with the block editor before and it scares me. I think I really need to consider pre-posting on a document page before I even think of toying with the new techno-gadgets.
Bloggers have stuff we want to say. The LAST thing we want to do in invest time in writing a blog post and then have some new gadget send it who knows where. I’ve had it done and it was all I could do NOT to put a hammer through my computer! It took two days to calm down enough to even THINK about re-writing. Something else I don’t care to do. Especially if I put some of my best ideas in the previous post.
When writing a post, I’m very happy with SIMPLE. I use Photoscape for editing pics and adding text. For stories and the like, I want to keep things as uncomplicated as possible Less chance for me to botch it.
Thanks again.
Johanna

Hi Johanna – Believe me that I entirely understand you. I also prefer the Classic Editor but don’t want to dismiss the new block editor out of hand as this is the coming thing.
Like anything else new, it takes time to learn and get used to. That’s why I suggested starting a test site so you can experiment with it when you have the time and are not pressured to post a new blog post. You may still end up hating it, but you’ll have a better idea of why. :) Cheers!
