New gallery "Carousel" loading & scrolling are awful

  The new Carousel has some serious problems. First:

  1. Loading: Loading time is too long. Unless images are perfectly resized before uploading, they’ll probably be too big and take too long to load. Also the whole gallery has to load before any images appear, which, depending upon how many images and how large they are, could lead to a long time staring at the spinning pinwheel. This is a definite turn-off for everyone. One thing that has always been good about WP.com is its ease of use for the less technically inclined. Now all photos will have to be perfectly resized before upload, an extra step that may be too much for some.
  2. Scrolling: Scrolling is super jagged and crappy-looking. Even once the images have gone around once, the carousel stutters with each image. Not nice!
