New Gutenberg Editor – Special Characters

I decided to try out the new editor, and all seems fine except the old classic had access to more options just above rather than having to hunt around on the side menu. The other issue I’m having is Special Characters: I cannot find a button for them anywhere? Does the new editor (Gutenberg) have a WYSIWIG for Special Characters? If so where is it? So far this new editor is not very user friendly, and adds too many layers of menus on sidebar etc.

Why do companies like WordPress love to complexify rather than simplify these editors? The classic editor had everything needed within a top level menu for access and ease of use. Now one will have to click on several levels of menu to access things, and the ease of use has gone out the window (at least for me). Why not keep a simple WYSIWIG for those who do not need all these added features? I’ve used WordPress for years because of it’s simplified editor, and now you’ve forced me to reconsider whether I should stay or go. Why were the users not informed for their opinions regarding this enforced change? Just doesn’t make sense to me.

  • We still have options for you detailed at https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/05/18/say-hello-to-the-wordpress-block-editor/

We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

For special characters, you’ll be able to type them using the corresponding function keys for your operating system.

Ah, so you can use a classic block… that works. Thanks for the suggestions… I’ll look through your articles linked. Thanks again…
