New Image Widget
-
Being unbright, I don’t understand how to insert the new sidebar image. I don’t want to point to an image on a website. I just want to add an image of my own, which resides on my computer. How should one do that? Does anyone know?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

uhh…..a link to your blog does not qualify as an answer to my question about the image widget, you know….But I’m thinking you already knew that.
Anyone else with a slightly more helpful approach?

Rocker info is obviously spamming the forums.
You have to upload the image to your media library and then put the URL of that image into the image widget. When you upload the image and it finishes, there will be a greyed field at the bottom of that page where the image URL will be. Copy that URL out and then insert it into the image widget.

Drat. I followed your advice to the letter, path, and yet somehow, it didn’t work. All that happened was that the RSS widget icon moved a little to the right. That was it. I’m new to WordPress – alas, the Support Pages don’t always look like they were written for the newcomer.
Thanks anyway. -
I’m not sure what to tell you. Here is a screen cap of the inside of mine: http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/imgwid.png .

Thanks, path. Mine is http://interspecies.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/dog_cat_love1.jpg. It said to test the URL in your browser. I did, and it shows the picture just fine. However, not on my blog. I’ve experimented with making it different (small) sizes, or not giving a size – not a thing happens.
Odd, no? -
Go here and the image is in the top right sidebar. Width at 164 and height at 116 (to retain proportions).
Make sure that this is the URL: http://interspecies.wordpress.com/files/2009/09/dog_cat_love1.jpg . Above the period at the end causes a 404 error.

How strange and mysterious the world is to someone of limited intellect….I had already removed the period, and yet it still didn’t work. Uploaded again to make sure the period was indeed gone – it was, but the image still didn’t appear. And now, suddenly….It Has Appeared. Which is good – but I have no idea why it did. Still, mustn’t grumble. At the same moment, the (same) picture in my sticky post has DISAPPEARED. Even though I never touched it. All these things are mysterious. It doesn’t matter, because thanks to the Image Widget I’ll now get rid of the sticky post, anyway. But it is still WEIRD. I think what you wrote in the above (which I didn’t really understand, because I don’t know what you meant by “go here”) was a secret, black magic incantation. Somehow it had the desired result.
Thank you, Path. Btw – very attractive blog you have.

You’re welcome and thanks on the compliment. If you are talking about opposablethumbz, that is a sandbox skin by Devblog with a little minor tweaking by me.
WordPress has been a little flakey over the past few hours. I had to do the image widget a couple times as it kept clearing out everything when I would click save. I’ve been having issues with widgets for a couple months now actually where they just randomly get cranky.

(Nope, was talking about your Sacred Path blog. And getting a bit jealous about Hawaii.)
-
Ha – just saw my image is in your opposablethumz blog! And it looks a hell of a lot better there than in mine.

@interspecies, thanks. There is already quite a list of friends and family that plans on visiting.
My main blog will be undergoing a change sometime in the near future so I can implement some other things.

@tsp thank you for the tip! I just had that same question and found your advice here. Worked like a charm to insert a picture in the image widget!
