  Has the dashboard interface for wordpress changed recently?

  I haven’t updated my blogs for a while, but came back recently and thought “hey, this is different?”

  I also said, impatiently to myself, “hey, this is slower!”…..dreadfully slow, getting a link to bring up the new part of the dashboard or whatever…25-30 seconds. I have broadband download speed checked at 3.5mb/sec.

  Woefully slow and a complete frustrating pain to work in wordpress. What’s going on?

  Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then try again. It may partially be a caching or cookie issue. And, it will be a little slow until your browser gets the new stuff loaded. Also, if you haven’t activated it, use Google Gears by going to the tools > tools menu. It is designed to speed up the dashboard pages by keeping all the elements that do not change in a separate special cache on your hard drive. It made my dashboard a lot quicker loading and far more responsive.

  Thanks for the reply, TSP.

  My first reaction is…not another browser plugin to install ;) I absolutely HATE browser plugins and long for the days back then when browsers were simple affairs and just showed web pages, quickly, and weren’t chockablock full of add-ons!

  Yes, I’d already cleared the cache and cookies, gets done several times a day!

  Maybe I’ll just have to accept that it’s a slow job. Puts me off using it, though. I notice that the site itself can be slow to load and change page, too. A particular culprit here is the custom header which also sometimes takes half a minute to load (it’s only a 60kb jpg)….forcing me to ask myself what on earth is wordpress (the programme, the server) doing!

  I’ll be fair and say the whole world of CMS is generally abominably slow, so maybe not just a wordpress issue.

  Still quicker than sending news by mail, though….;)

  Gears is pretty amazing really, and it only applies to wordpress.COM, not to other sites. It is also easy to disable. Just a click of the button on tools > tools.
